Yellowstone fans, including us here at Outsider, are counting down the days until our beloved modern western series returns.
We still don’t have an official date but we are moving close to a premiere of the fourth season. In the meantime, fans are passing the time by speculating on what will happen in the upcoming new Yellowstone season.
We all know the most important question surrounding the Paramount Network series’ fourth season — who attacks the Dutton family. For a quick refresher on the third Yellowstone season finale, three members of the Dutton family are attacked by an unknown entity. John Dutton is gunned down on the side of the road after stopping to help a family in need. Kayce Dutton, John’s son, is attacked by gunmen in his own office. Beth Dutton, John’s daughter, is the recipient of a package bomb that explodes inside her office. The fate of the three Duttons is left totally up in the air as we head into season four.
Once we learn the fate of the Dutton family, it is likely we will turn to the real meat of the story and that is who is behind the attacks. The Duttons certainly don’t lack for enemies and seemingly everyone wants a piece of Yellowstone Ranch. But who is behind the attacks?
Yellowstone Season Four Will Have Answers
In a recent interview with Deadline, actor Gil Birmingham, who plays Chief Rainwater, made some very interesting comments. Though he doesn’t come right out and say it, Birmingham implies that his character might have had a hand in the attacks. Asked about the interest in Yellowstone Ranch, the actor says the local tribe doesn’t see things the same.
“Well we don’t see it as John Dutton’s land,” Birmingham says. “We see it as land that has been taken from us, so that’s a different perspective to begin with. I think it’s always been difficult in the present-day for native people to maneuver in terms of survival to stay here. So we’ll do what we have to do in order to survive, I mean that’s our ancestral resilience.”
Birmingham’s comments from his Yellowstone character’s point of view are more than enough to raise a few eyebrows. He very well could be hinting at Rainwater’s involvement in the Dutton family attack.
Starting out as a series antagonist and primary threat to the Duttons and Yellowstone Ranch, Rainwater slowly becomes an ally of the family. That changed with the presence of Angela Blue Thunder, joining his counsel.
Insisting they not treat the Duttons as friends, Blue Thunder encourages Rainwater to take measures into his own hands. It is completely conceivable that he takes his new associate’s advice and attacks the Dutton in an effort to take their land.
There are a whole slew of candidates who could be behind the attack and the tribal leader is just one of them. Fear not, Yellowstone fans, for answers are coming our way shortly.
