The third season of “Yellowstone” ended with so many questions left unanswered. Show creator, Taylor Sheridan, definitely knows what he’s doing when it comes to leaving fans hanging. And one of those cliffhangers that Sheridan left fans wondering “what’s next,” involved Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley).

One of the last scenes we see John Dutton’s (Kevin Costner) son in is when the targeted attacks are taking place. Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), John’s trusty right-hand man, is trying to get ahold of someone in the family. After his failed attempts, Rip calls Jamie. The black sheep of the family tells Rip that he shouldn’t call him anymore.

Dedicated “Yellowstone” fans are discussing the possibility of Jamie leaving the Dutton ranch for good. They’re going back over the finals scenes with a fine-tooth comb and picking out some clues that might just solidify this theory.

Is Jamie Done With the Duttons?

These avid fans believe it’s that phone call between Jamie and Rip that provides the piece of evidence they need leading into the next season.

“Why would Jaime tell Rip not to call him anymore? I really don’t think Jaime was the one that put the hits out because no way would he ever attack Kayce,” the fan says on Reddit, according to Express.

This person answers with, “Oh and y’all reckon Kayce knows Jaime was adopted? I’m thinking yes due to his comment that Jaime better not call him anything else than brother. [sic].”

Fans of the hit show find out something that they’ve been wondering ever since Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) confronted her father about his love for Jamie. In season 3, viewers find out a huge bombshell. Jamie Dutton is adopted. This storyline continues to unfold in the last episode, but it’s cut short by the season ending.

As a result, some fans think that Jamie has left the area for good after he cuts ties with his adoptive family.

This person adds, “I don’t think the phone call is all that complicated. I think this is Jamie finally severing those ties to the family, for good. He’s telling Rip not to call him anymore because he feels like it’s no longer his problem. I think it’s symbolic of what Jamie’s direction is for S4.”

Did Jamie Order the Hits on His Adoptive Family

There’s chatter in the chat forum about this theory. Is Jamie that deeply hurt that he wants to take out the family that raised him?

“I wondered the exact same thing about the phone call. Why would Jamie say that, frankly, if he wasn’t involved with at least ONE of the assassination attempts?” asks this person.

Another eagle-eyed viewer offers their input regarding the hits on the Dutton family. Maybe Jamie isn’t involved in all of the hits, but he could have a hand in taking out John. After all his biological father says, “Yellowstone ain’t a ranch, it’s an empire and empire’s you take,” says Garrett Randall (Will Patton). When Jamie asks how, Garrett says simply, “You kill the king.”

“I think it could be John, because as Jamie’s real father said, to take an empire you have to “kill the king”.”

Then these fans dive deeper into the script, and call out Jamie Dutton’s cousin in Montana.

“No need to hire anybody. Jamie’s Birth father mentions a couple of cousins in east Montana. That van the shooters pulled up in is just the kind of vehicle I would expect his cousins to have,” this fan adds.

Until season 4 debuts this June, learn more about the actor that plays Jamie Dutton. Furthermore, did Wes Bentley drop a major fourth season spoiler?
