‘Yellowstone’ TV: Does New Character Suggest Dutton Crimes Will Be Exposed in Season 4?

On “Yellowstone,” Piper Perabo’s Summer Higgins could spell trouble for the Dutton ranch next season. Perabo reportedly signed on to play Higgins in Season 4 of the hit Paramount Network series. And her character – a protester from Portland who opposes state-funded police force protection of industrialized farming – could go digging up the Dutton family’s many secrets.

In fact, the Express is floating the theory that Higgins might actually pose a threat to the Duttons’ influence in the valley where the ranch sits.

One, her protests will bring added scrutiny to the ranch at a time when it can ill afford that. Two, her attacks on their police protection could scare off the local cops whom John Dutton (Kevin Costner) has doggedly corralled into helping them out. And three, the message of Higgins’s protests could drive a wedge between the Duttons and the Broken Rock reservation, despite their seeming alliance at the end of Season 3.

When Season 3 Left Off, the Dutton Ranch Was Vulnerable

At the end of “Yellowstone” Season 3, Dutton and his family faced antagonists on multiple fronts. Chief among them was Market Equities, led by Roarke Morris (Josh Holloway) and Willa Hayes (Karen Pittman). The hedge fund was angling to buy a slice of Dutton’s land in order to build an airport. And they were willing to stop at nothing to get their way.

Meanwhile, Gov. Lynelle Perry (Wendy Moniz-Grillo), Dutton’s former lover, had seemingly turned against him. At the big season-finale meeting, Perry backed the hedge fund’s efforts. Joining forces with Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley), who at the end of last season was growing ever more alienated from his adoptive family, she pushed John Dutton to sell his land.

Making matters worse, Beth Dutton’s (Kelly Reilly) dutiful attempt to wrest control of the Dutton estate from Jamie went awry. It turned out she had filed legal paperwork in Utah instead of Montana. As the season finale sped toward its conclusion, the Duttons’ last best hope seemed to be a class-action environmental impact lawsuit spearheaded by Angela Blue Thunder (Q’orianka Kilcher) and Chief Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham).

There’s Likely to Be More Rip-Style Revenge in Season 4 of ‘Yellowstone’

While there is plenty of Rip Wheeler’s (Cole Hauser) past handiwork to unearth – and the Duttons had better hope Higgins doesn’t – John Dutton’s enforcer may have his work cut out for him in Season 4. Rip may have some new candidates to “take to the train station,” or dispose of, when the “Yellowstone” Season 4 premiere kicks off in November.

That’s because at the end of the Season 3 finale, multiple Duttons – including Beth, Rip’s fiancée – came under attack by unknown forces. John Dutton’s life was hanging by a thread. Beth was engulfed in an explosion. And Kayce (Luke Grimes) faced a pack of intruders. So it’s an open question whether the Dutton family will ever be the same.

But ultimately, there’s only one way to find out what havoc Higgins will wreak on the ranch. (Not to mention whether the Duttons will live to seek revenge.) And that’s to tune in to “Yellowstone” this November.
