As they wait for the approaching season 4, “Yellowstone” fans are keeping themselves busy by discussing the show online.

Reddit, an online message board community, has become a hotbed for Yellowstone content. Fans take to the message board to speculate and theorize about what could be in store for season four. The hit Paramount Network show will return this summer, though an exact date is not yet known.

In addition to speculating, some Yellowstone fans simply want to talk about the show and gather other’s opinions. It isn’t uncommon to see a lengthy thread on one particular scene in the show. One particular post asks for feedback on a specifically difficult scene between John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley). The scene deals with a very difficult subject for many people and that is suicide.

‘Yellowstone’ Fans Applaud Effort in Touchy Subject

In this scene, Jamie is struggling with recent events in his life, including murdering a journalist. He nabs a rifle from the ranch and heads out into an open field where he is intercepted by his father John. Unwilling to let his son die, John apologizes to Jamie for sending him off to school and not giving him the time he needs on the ranch. He talks Jamie out of it and takes the shotgun from him as they head back to Yellowstone Ranch. It is an intense moment but one that shows that John does indeed truly love Jamie — despite the latter’s belief in otherwise.

The Reddit users ask, “What are your thoughts regarding the scene with Jamie in the field ready to commit suicide?” They continue, “John Dutton talked him down. I really appreciate how that was handled. I never understood suicide but John’s speech really helped me. It is excellent. I have watched it more than once.”

Other Reddit posters also note the Yellowstone scene was very well done by the veteran actors.

“As someone who’s talked another person down from a similar situation I can say they definitely got the emotion right in that scene,” another poster says.

In addition to handling a delicate topic with grace, the scene sets up the dynamic between John and Jamie for future events.

With Yellowstone season four now just months away, it is likely the relationship between John and Dutton will be further explored.
