Yellowstone fans are still in an uproar over the third season finale that saw the Dutton family come under attack by an unknown entity.
Three members of the powerful Montana ranching clan came under siege as the final seconds of the third season ticked away. Family patriarch and Yellowstone Ranch owner John Dutton was shot in the chest several times while assisting a stranded family. It is believed he survives due to a well-placed cell phone in his shirt pocket protecting his heart. John’s son, Kayce Dutton, was able to take cover in his office as gunshots rang out inside the building. John’s only daughter, Beth Dutton, was the recipient of an exploding package. The bomb went off only a few feet from Beth as her assistant opened the package. The explosive device detonated inside her office, busting several windows in the process. All three could be dead or all three could be alive as their fates are left up in the air.
While the first order of the new season will be learning who survives, attention will soon shift to the fallout of the attacks. Yellowstone fans believe there will be vengeance on the mind of several characters on the show. This includes the rough and tough Rip Wheeler who is sure to want revenge upon the assailants — or will he?
Any Yellowstone watcher knows Rip is not averse to the occasional butt-kicking and head-stomping. Rip is extremely loyal to the Duttons, including Beth, who is his fiancee as of the third season. Should Beth survive the attack, it is likely to put Rip in a different frame of mind. While many fans want to see him go straight bad*** cowboy on the attackers that may not be the case, according to some other actors on the show.
‘Yellowstone’ Actors Speak on What to Expect From Rip and Beth
In a recent edition of “stories from the bunkhouse,” the Yellowstone cowboy crew says we could see a softer side of Rip this season. Jefferson White, who plays ranch hand Jimmy, says the audience should prepare to see a more nurturing Rip. He says we could also see Beth’s fragile side this season as well.
“It’s an amazing opportunity to see a softer side of both of them, cause they’re both harda***s in such a different way,” he says.
Yellowstone fans began to see the lighter side of Rip emerge in the third season. He makes Beth breakfast as she recovers from her injuries. He becomes emotional when asking Lloyd to be his Best Man when he marries Beth. We see Rip have a tear-jerking heart-to-heart talk with his unearthed dead mother. We also see his fragility when he struggles to summon the courage to ask John for her hand in marriage. This results in Beth asking him to marry her. Denim Richards, who plays ranch hand Colby, confers with White’s assumption.
“I think it’s really beautiful,” he says. “I think the audience is gonna have this opportunity to see this amazing side of Rip. The cooking and the attentiveness… He does have this capacity to love deeply.”
For a show that doesn’t feature a lot of romance, Rip and Beth’s love story is one of Yellowstone’s most interesting story arcs. The two began seeing each other as teenagers and have had an on-again, off-again relationship throughout the three seasons.
Yellowstone fans are hoping we get to see the relationship continue, and perhaps — a Yellowstone wedding. The show’s fourth season will premiere this summer, likely in the month of June. It is safe to say that fans are ready for the wait to be over.
With the new season drawing near, the wait won’t be much longer.
