Who does Kelly Reilly, the actress who plays Beth Dutton on Yellowstone, think is the “most formidable enemy” in the show?
Throughout the Yellowstone series, the Dutton family has come across plenty of powerful and intimidating villains. Between Dan Jenkins, Chief Rainwater and the reservation, the Beck Brothers, and Roarke, Willa Hayes, and the rest of Market Equities, the ranch is constantly checking their shoulders for people looking to destroy them.
Honestly, it’s a bit exhausting. Like, when do you think the last time these people had a regular day was? No drama, no killings, no cattle or medical emergencies… nothing. Just an ordinary, uneventful Tuesday. Well, we have yet to see one on Yellowstone.
Kelly Reilly: “Something the Dutton’s Can’t Fight”
Kelly Reilly’s character, Beth, has gone head to head with most of these villains on her own. The woman is absolutely fearless. And while many have tried to end her (and come very close), all have failed… or at least, that is what we are hoping. We have yet to see if Beth survived the bomb that exploded in her office on the Yellowstone season three finale. Fans also have yet to see who is to blame for the deadly attacks.
In July of 2020, Kelly Reilly sat down for the SAG-AFTRA Foundation panel for Entertainment Weekly to discuss the “most formidable enemy” the Dutton’s have seen yet. And who was the lucky winner? That would be none other than Roarke and Market Equities.
“It’s way bigger than anything that they’ve faced,” Reilly said. “He does represent the most formidable enemy that they have met. Beth understands this is something the Dutton’s can’t fight with.”
Kelly Reilly also applauds Josh Holloway’s depiction of Roarke Morris in Yellowstone.
“Maybe some of that freshness has rubbed off. [Holloway] just comes in and doesn’t play the character the way you would imagine,” Reilly says. “He takes an interesting approach to the role. He was awesome.”
Author’s Pick For the Worst Enemy on Yellowstone
We have previously broken down each villain the Dutton family has faced thus far. And while Roarke is a potential threat, he has yet to make any major, deadly moves. At the moment, we are unsure who planned the attacks, and while we assume it was Roarke and Market Equities, everyone is innocent until proven guilty.
As far as we are concerned, the most diabolical people the Duttons have come in contact with thus far are the Beck Brothers.
Like everyone else in Montana, the Texas-raised Beck brothers have their eyes on the Yellowstone ranch. They poisoned almost $100,000 worth of cattle, killed Dan Jenkins, killed Thomas Rainwater’s best card dealer at the casino, tried to rape and kill Beth, and kidnapped Tate. Their reputation led them straight into a grave.
Do we assume that Market Equities is a venomous rattlesnake in the garden, just waiting to strike? Absolutely. However, Yellowstone fans are doomed to wait and wonder what their next move will be. Is Market Equities as powerful as they seem? Or are they all bark and no bite?
