People are still talking about the cliffhanging third season finale of Yellowstone that threw fans a major curveball heading into a new season. And most importantly, what the fallout will look like in Season 4.
The biggest point of contention with the approaching fourth season is the status of four Yellowstone protagonists. In the season three finale, we see John, Kayce and Beth Dutton face attacks from an unknown entity. Poor Jimmy and his rodeo antics also have left fans sleepless at wondering if he is dead or alive. The truth is that we simply do not know who is dead or alive of the four characters. They could all be dead, they could be alive or some combination of the two possible outcomes. It is a big mystery that isn’t ready for resolve until the new season begins.
Once the status of the aforementioned is revealed, it is time to focus on who carries out the attack. We know all the suspects and their motives for wanting to do away with the Dutton family. The Market Equities duo of Roarke Morris and Willa Hayes has plenty of motivation to slay the Yellowstone ranchers. The same is true for Chief Rainwater and his associate, Angela Blue Thunder, as they want their land as their own. Garrett Randle, Jamie Dutton’s biological father, is also a prime suspect now that he’s reunited with his son.
Then there is Jamie, who has been on a whirlwind of emotions through the first three seasons. He doesn’t seem happy with his family for recent actions and many fans have him as the primary culprit of the attacks. His newfound father is also fueling his fire, telling him that “the only way to bring down an empire, is to kill the king.” Many believe he is referencing Yellowstone Ranch as the empire and John Dutton as the king.
There is also the shady response to Rip’s telephone call at the end of season three. After Rip reaches out to Jamie to ask what is going on, the latter tells him not to call anymore.
If it is Jamie behind the attacks and Rip finds out it is him…well, no one wants to be in those shoes. It would be hard to see Rip not smashing Jamie’s skull in if he finds out.
In this case, perhaps the only one who could save Jamie from total annihilation is his adopted brother, Kayce. Many fans are discussing this theory on websites dedicated to Yellowstone discussion, like Reddit. Many believe Rip will go off the deep end once he learns he is behind the attacks.
“My big prediction for season four is Rip kills Jaime only to find out he wasn’t responsible,” a Reddit poster writes. “Then kills his father. Then some more people. Rip kills everyone.”
We have seen Kayce prevent Rip from killing people before, namely ranch hand Walker. The burly cowboy twice sentenced Walker to a “train station” ride, only to see Kayce spare his life.
Rip has a great deal of respect for Kayce, John Dutton’s son. Kayce also respects Rip as well, although the two men don’t always show it while on Yellowstone Ranch.
Kayce also still looks a Jamie as a brother and has an emotional attachment to him. The former Navy Seal also doesn’t care much for killing unless it’s for survival. Rip, on the other hand, will fight anyone who messes with the Duttons or Yellowstone Ranch at the drop of a (cowboy) hat.
Yellowstone fans are at the edges of their seats awaiting the return of their favorite show. With the premiere just months away, they won’t have to wait too much longer.
