One of the many reasons we love the Paramount Network hit series “Yellowstone” is because of its authentic portrayal of Western culture.

Take actor Forrie J. Smith, who plays veteran cowboy and “Yellowstone” senior bunkhouse member Lloyd Pierce, for example. Lloyd seems like a real deal cowboy in every sense of the word — because he is a real cowboy. At 62 years of age, Smith has been there and done that in the world of cowboys. He grew up on a genuine cattle ranch and has been participating in rodeos since his youth. His experience is so authentic that photos from his time in the rodeo are used on the “Yellowstone” set. Smith isn’t the only real rancher on “Yellowstone” either. Set director Carla Curry has lived the ranching lifestyle for the past 20 years. In a 2020 interview, she speaks on the challenges of making “Yellowstone” a living example of the cowboy culture. The interview appears on a “Yellowstone” social media page.

“It’s all in the details,” the Instagram post proclaims. “Set director Carla Curry and the team focus on the details to make “Yellowstone feel as real as possible.”

“Everyone loves the bunkhouse — it’s my favorite set,” Curry says. “Forrie Smith is a friend of mine. I have known him for 30 years. He has actually lived that life. If you look in his bed, you can see a lot of personal details I added. These are all his rodeo pictures.”

‘Yellowstone’ Rodeo Pics Provide Authentic Vibe

The rodeo pics are placed neatly above Lloyd’s bunkhouse space. It is a terrific detail that adds you the “Yellowstone” experience in a positive way for fans.

While there is obviously no reason to not love “Yellowstone,” what keeps us all coming back for more is the modern western goodness the show oozes. Everything from the bunkhouse to the main house looks and feels like a modern-day cattle ranch. The actors, from Cole Hauser’s Rip Wheeler to Brecken Merrill’s Tate Dutton, could definitely pass as real cowboys. Even the accents the actors use feels authentic and real — and you wouldn’t know it was fake unless you looked it up. Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth Dutton on “Yellowstone” is a perfect example of authenticity. Just from watching the show, you would never suspect Reilly is English. In fact, most people assume that Reilly grew up on a cattle ranch for watching her on the show.

With a new season of “Yellowstone” quickly approaching, many are wondering what is in store for Lloyd. Through three seasons, Smith’s character has won the hearts of “Yellowstone” fans. With a few interesting storylines for Lloyd on the horizon, It is a safe bet that the character will be a big part of season four.
