Jimmy from Paramount’s hit series Yellowstone is the low man on the totem pole, but after this major moment, he is untouchable.
Jimmy’s grandfather is worried about Jimmy’s well-being. He begs John to hire him to do anything on the ranch, as long as it gets him out from his house, which is a breeding ground for drugs.
John Dutton agrees and sends his right-hand man and the enforcer on the Yellowstone ranch to give Jimmy an ultimatum. The choice is exactly a hard one, or not much of a choice at all. Jimmy must choose between jail or working as a cowboy on the Yellowstone ranch.
The ‘Yellowstone’ Scene Where We Meet Jimmy
“You Jimmy?” ask Rip on Jimmy’s doorstep. “Dirk Hurdstram’s boy? You alone, Jimmy?”
Under the influence of some or many types of drugs, Jimmy stares back at the frightening stranger. He is at a loss for words.
“I’ll take that as a yes,” Rip says before tazing Jimmy and entering the mobile home.
The next thing we know, the young drug addict is tied to a chair while Rip goes over his options.
“You’re a two-time loser, Jimmy. One more felon and they throw away the keys. You know what? You might do all right in prison, you got the lips for it.”
“You’re either a servant or a king in this place, and I ain’t no f*cking servant,” Jimmy finally says.
“No, no, no. You’re a thief,” states Rip before coming at Jimmy with a piping hot “Y” branding iron.
“Oh, what the f*ck, man? What the f*ck, man? Wait, wait, wait, wait! F*ck, psycho, wait,” Jimmy screams as he falls back in the chair, breaking it.
“Jimmy, I’m gonna give you two choices. One is, I take you and all this shit, and I drive you down to the Sheriff’s office, and it’s good riddance to your sorry ass, or you prove that you deserve another chance. From what I can see, you don’t, but it ain’t up to me.”
Actually, just about everything in this situation is up to Rip. What kind of choice is jail or hard labor. It’s a lose-lose situation.
“You work at Yellowstone?” Jimmy asks, stalling.
“It’s getting cold, Jimmy. You know what? Fuck it. I’m going to take you down to the Sheriff. Get up.”
“Wait. Why would John Dutton give a shit about me?” asks Jimmy.
“He doesn’t. But he will,” says Rip as he reveals a “Y” brand on his own chest. “Now you be a man about it. Don’t scream… You know where the ranch is? You start Monday.”
Earning the Brand
Once you have the Yellowstone brand, you are the property of the ranch and may never leave. Well, you can, but expect a chunk of your chest with the brand on it to stay. So, only a few of the cowboys on the ranch are loyal enough to earn it. However, with the brand, no person can mess with you.
Regardless, Jimmy has grown to be not only a great cowboy but a main character who has earned the brand on his chest. Now let’s just see if he can keep it, or will Mia convince him to pursue rodeo.
