‘Yellowstone’ TV: Spinoff ‘6666’ in the Works at Paramount+

Get ready Yellowstone fans, a second spinoff series is in the works at Paramount+ from franchise creator Taylor Sheridan.

While fans are still reeling from that incredible Y:1883 prequel reveal, there seems to be no end in sight for Yellowstone’s franchising. The original hit drama’s creator, producer, and writer Taylor Sheridan has just had his second spinoff greenlit by Paramount+ (formerly CBS All Access).

The big reveal? Sheridan’s second Yellowstone spinoff is tentatively titled 6666.

This particular spinoff will switch focus to Texas. There, the enormous, centuries-old ranch of the same 6666 name continues to thrive off top horses and livestock. The official synopsis reads as follows:

Founded when Comanches still ruled West Texas, no ranch in America is more steeped in the history of the West than the 6666. Still operating as it did two centuries before, and encompassing an entire county, the 6666 is where the rule of law and the laws of nature merge in a place where the most dangerous thing one does is the next thing … The 6666 is synonymous with the merciless endeavor to raise the finest horses and livestock in the world, and ultimately where world class cowboys are born and made.

Taylor Sheridan will executive produce the spinoff series. Joining him is John Linson, Art Linson, David Glasser, Ron Burkle and Bob Yari, Deadline reports.

Yellowstone Branches Out to Modern Western Franchise

6666 follows the early 2021 announcement of Yellowstone: 1883, or Y:1883, the prequel series set to follow the ancestors of John Dutton through America’s historical Westward Expansion. 1883 is already set and in full series order as of February.

Western fans and television audiences worldwide have fallen for Paramount’s modern spin on the genre thanks to a brilliant cast, outstanding writing, and Hollywood-level production value. As such, it is no surprise that Yellowstone will now become a major television franchise.

“I don’t care if you live or die. But should you live, you tell them about me…”

So says the ominous voiceover in the teaser for Y:1883. It gives us an immediate glimpse into the tone of the Yellowstone prequel, which you can view here.

Even more revealing, however, is the show’s official synopsis. Within, we’re told that 1883 will follow the ancestors of John Dutton and his children “as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains towards the last bastion of untamed America.”

In doing so, Yellowstone mastermind Taylor Sheridan promises “a stark retelling of Western expansion.” Music to any fan’s ears. Moreover, 1883 will serve as “an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land – Montana.”

Sounds like the Duttons have always been fighters. Are we surprised? Of course not. But we’re damn excited.
