Taking the Dutton Ranch legacy and looking at it through the lens of “Yellowstone: 1883” is very important to show creator Taylor Sheridan.
Sheridan and Paramount+ already announced that “Y:1883” will be a spinoff from the very successful “Yellowstone” western drama. It will be a part of the Paramount+ Network.
In talking about the new show, Sheridan mentions the important job of being a storyteller to the audience.
“As a storyteller, our job is to entertain first, educate second, and enlighten third,” Sheridan said. “What we’ve done with ‘Yellowstone’ is so rare to do.”
Taylor Sheridan Wanted To Make ‘Yellowstone’ Bigger
Coming up with the story around “Yellowstone,” which stars Kevin Costner as John Dutton, provided an impetus for Sheridan to grow it out.
“I was always fascinated when I came up with the story of ‘Yellowstone’ about how do we make it bigger and expand it,” he said.
Well, Sheridan and his crew are definitely going all out in order to expand the storyline. Fans of “Yellowstone” better buckle up for the ride because “Y:1883” will be moving through different eras. The plan is to cover a 130-year legacy of the Dutton family.
“What an opportunity to witness the first Duttons to come to Montana,” Sheridan said. “We see them when they were homesteading. When we say the Wild West, what that really means is a West beyond the reach of the rule of law. It really is the beginning of an empire before it was an empire.”
Second ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff Is In The Works, Too
Meanwhile, if “Yellowstone” fans didn’t have enough news on their plates, then get ready for ‘6666.’
Sheridan has just had this second spinoff get the go-ahead from Paramount+ (formerly CBS All Access). His second Yellowstone spinoff is tentatively titled 6666. It will turn its focus to Texas and away from Montana, where “Yellowstone” and “Y:1883” are centered.
6666 follows the early 2021 announcement of Yellowstone: 1883, or Y:1883, the prequel series set to follow the ancestors of John Dutton through America’s historical Westward Expansion. “Yellowstone: 1883” is already set and in the full series order as of February.
But fans around the world love the modern spin put on life in the West. With the main show and two spinoffs, it’s a pretty good bet that the show will become an even larger name on TV.
