The Yellowstone prequel is officially in the works, with Faith Hill set to play a vital role. Hill, along with husband Tim McGraw, have both signed on to star in the upcoming series. Sam Elliot will also feature. 1883 is one of two upcoming Yellowstone spinoffs.

Faith Hill will play Margret Dutton, the Matriarch of the Dutton family. Her husband, Tim McGraw, will play the Dutton Family Patriarch, James Dutton. Sam Elliot will play their guide. People know Hill for her dominating career in country music.

1883 will follow the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the great plains. Described by TV Line as a “stark re-telling of Western expansion,” the show will take a look at a family fleeing poverty. They escape to none other than Montana, where the Dutton dynasty truly begins.

Taylor Sheridan, John Linson, Art Linson, Bob Yari, David Glasser and Ron Burkle are set to executive produce.

Faith Hill is ‘Honored’ To Work With ‘Yellowstone’ Creator Taylor Sheridan

“This is the opportunity of a lifetime,” Faith Hill said in a statement. “The Duttons are a formidable family, and it is an absolute dream to bring such a strong female character like Margaret Dutton to life. I am humbled and honored to work with Taylor and his entire team.”

As is the case with Yellowstone, Showrunner Taylor Sheridan is leading the charge with 1883. Tim McGraw expressed his excitement about that.

“Taylor has found a way of storytelling that brilliantly creates these epic dramas and family sagas with so much depth and creativity. The Duttons are tremendous characters, and it’s so thrilling to be able to bring them to life. As a kid growing up riding horses, you think about dream jobs like this, and I am just so excited to work with this amazing cast and crew,” he said.

With the success of Yellowstone on top of the draw that Faith Hill and Tim McGraw will bring in, 1883 looks set up for success. There’s no word yet on a release date for the series, but it’s clear that production plans are in motion. The spinoff just put out a call for crew members in Fort Worth, TX, and production will likely start later this month.

In a video released by Paramount +, Yellowstone and 1883 creator Taylor Sheridan talked about the opportunity he has to look at a different generation of Duttons.

“What an opportunity to witness the first Duttons to come to Montana,” he said. “We see them when they were homesteading. When we say the Wild West, what that really means is a West beyond the reach of the rule of law. It really is the beginning of an empire before it was an empire.”
