“Yellowstone” recurring character Angela Blue Thunder (Q’orianka Kilcher) is a force to be reckoned with. And at the end of Season 3, “Yellowstone” dangled the prospect that she and Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) might get together to do some serious damage to Market Equities’ plans for the Dutton ranch.
The hedge fund was trying to buy up the Dutton family’s land to make way for an airport. But Market Equities’ plans for expansion also ran afoul of another influential player in the area: Chief Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham), who called in Blue Thunder to help thwart them.
However, Blue Thunder has a mind of her own. Plus she’s a bit of a live wire. And she encouraged Rainwater to turn on Dutton, not collaborate with him.
Could Blue Thunder go rogue in Season 4? It’s a question some “Yellowstone” fans are asking.
‘Yellowstone’ Fans Discuss Blue Thunder ‘Pulling Strings’
Now “Yellowstone” fans are publicly wondering to what extent Blue Thunder is manipulating Rainwater, and whether the two characters will go their separate ways in Season 4 after some sort of disagreement.
On Reddit, one “Yellowstone” fan hinted that Blue Thunder is “pulling strings,” and she may want the Duttons’ land back for her tribe enough to double-cross John Dutton (Kevin Costner) on this matter.
“Watching the Memorial weekend marathon… Saw the scene with Rainwater… Where he asked Mo to print him out a plat of all the available land around JD’s ranch,” the fan posted. “He said he wanted it all… Even if there’s no water on the acreage… So bet Angela is in the background pulling strings… I think she and Rainwater are working together…. Not sure how the attacks are worked in though… Angela seems to want the land back more than Rainwater.”
Mo, or Rainwater’s driver (Mo Brings Plenty), has never quite seemed to trust Blue Thunder. Could she wind up buying up all the land around Dutton’s ranch, as Rainwater seemed to be preparing to do, only to double-cross Rainwater later? Perhaps Rainwater will end up joining forces with John Dutton to counteract Blue Thunder’s handiwork at some point in the future.
Birmingham Points Out Different Views of Land
Asked at a recent Deadline event about the prospect that Rainwater could turn against the Duttons again, as he has in previous seasons of “Yellowstone,” Birmingham gamely replied, “Well, we don’t see it as John Dutton’s land, we see it as ours, so that’s a different perspective… We’ll do what we have to do to survive. That’s always been our ancestral resilience.”
In other words, the actor is leaving the door open to a plot twist in which the current allies again become foes. So either Blue Thunder or Rainwater himself may yet make a play for that land.
Only the “Yellowstone” cast and crew know what series co-creator Taylor Sheridan has in store for the characters next season. And so far, no spoilers. Looks like fans will just have to wait until the Season 4 premiere next month to find out.
