Some actors and actresses are a fans of sequels. Kevin Costner, however, is not.

According to IMDb, the Yellowstone actor has “purposely avoided doing sequels to his films. So far, he is one of the few blockbuster stars to never come back for a sequel.” And this spans his whole career! As a matter of fact, Costner has been acting since the early ’80s.

Costner’s made a name for himself in the movie business and is synonymous with fan favorites like Field of Dreams, Bull Durham, and The Bodyguard. It’s taken him nearly 40 years to make the jump from the big screen to TV.

And it wasn’t easy for the Oscar-winner to do so. He told Cinema Blend that the transition wasn’t ideal.

“It hasn’t been an easy adjustment for me. I don’t like it too much,” Costner states.

The 66-year-old actor likes knowing how things are going to end. However, with Yellowstone, which has reportedly been renewed for a fifth season, things are taken in strides with the western drama series.

Could Kevin Costner Change His Mind?

However, could change be in the wind for Kevin Costner?

The man who plays John Dutton, the powerful patriarch that’s trying to defend his land and steer his family in the right direction, might just be included in the Yellowstone prequel. The spinoff, 6666, was announced earlier this year.

The latest in the Yellowstone universe, thought up by brainchild Taylor Sheridan, will reportedly coincide with the storyline of Yellowstone, or be sort of like a “life after the Dutton ranch.” Rumor has it that some of the cowboys might be leaving the Dutton ranch for the Four-Sixes in Texas.

As for Y:1883, this franchise branch will focus on events prior to the Yellowstone ranch in Montana. Think more along the lines of the Duttons homesteading and making their way to the Big Sky State.

We might not know much about the series, but we can definitely expect that Taylor Sheridan-style of writing that fans have come to know from his previous work.

Sheridan said in a video posted on Twitter, “I was always fascinated when I came up with the story of ‘Yellowstone’ about how do we make it bigger and expand it. This new show explores different eras of that 130-year legacy.”

But what about Kevin Costner’s John Dutton? Will Costner break his “unspoken” code for 6666 and Y:1883?

Perhaps Sheridan can convince him that he needs him in these two spinoffs. After all, Yellowstone was enough to captivate Costner to make the leap from movies to TV series.

We know it sounds cliché, but only time will tell here.
