Lee Dutton (Dave Annable), we barely knew ye. The actor who played the Dutton brother that “Yellowstone” killed off too soon is celebrating his birthday today, and the official @Yellowstone Instagram account is wishing him a happy day.
“Happy Birthday, @dave_annable! Your Lee Dutton left us too soon. #YellowstoneTV,” the show posted to Instagram on Wednesday.
‘Yellowstone’ Character Was the Dutiful Son
Sure, Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) is the romantic rebel and Jamie Dutton’s (Wes Bentley) partisans love to defend him against Beth (Kelly Reilly). But Lee Dutton was the dutiful son, who cheerfully tried and failed to live up to John Dutton’s (Kevin Costner) sky-high expectations that he see the world the same way John, the country’s top rancher, sees it.
Lee was always a bit softer than John. But he took his father’s stern admonitions in stride, and he cheerfully handled Kayce’s sharp-elbowed ribbing. He even, at one point, took a face full of fish from Tate (Brecken Merrill). Alas, he lasted for one episode of “Yellowstone.”
Lee’s death set off a crisis for the Dutton family and ultimately wound up, bringing Kayce back into the fold, however reluctantly. And as the Dutton ranch reels from the simultaneous attacks that began in the Season 3 finale and promise to continue in the Season 4 premiere, we bet John has reason to miss Lee’s steady presence on the ranch.
Annable Recently Joined the CW’s ‘Walker’ in a Recurring Role
Last month, the CW announced that Annable would be joining the cast of “Walker” in a recurring role, Deadline reports. The reboot of “Walker, Texas Ranger” stars Jared Padalecki as a widower who comes back home to Austin after spending two years undercover and realizes he has his work cut out for him at home.
Annable is playing Dan Miller, husband of Denise. Miller is out to protect his wife and prove his loyalty to the Davidson family, which distrusts the Walkers. He arrives in Austin auguring trouble for Walker. Annable will first appear in Episode 201.
The actor’s wife, Odette Annable, also appears on “Walker” as a series regular, in the role of Geri Broussarad.
This will not be the first time the couple has appeared together in a project. They also guest-starred on “Fantasy Island” earlier this year, playing a couple who are trying to reclaim the spark in their marriage. And they co-starred in the Freeform romantic comedy TV movie “No Sleep ‘Til Christmas” together, too.
Besides “Yellowstone,” Annable has also recently appeared on “This Is Us.” And he co-starred with Renee Zellweger in the Netflix limited series “What/If.” It looks like the actor has been pretty busy since his appearance on Taylor Sheridan’s hit show, but the cast seems to remember him fondly.
