A fun gathering with family and friends quickly turned tragic. A crocodile mauled and killed an 8-year-old boy near his home in Malaysia. The boy’s father was helpless to save his son from the creature.
The attack happened on Friday, Dec. 11 during the afternoon in Borneo, Malaysia. As many families do, the Malaysian family had a get together with some friends. The boy and another friend decided to go swimming in the Kampung Sabah Baru river, which is located a few yards from his house.
While swimming, a crocodile attacked the boys and unfortunately cost the 8-year-old his life. Meanwhile, the boy’s friend managed to escape the river and run back to the house for help. The boy’s father called emergency services. But by that time, it was too late to rescue the boy.
The Boy’s Body Was Recovered But the Crocodile Escaped
Emergency services managed to recover the boy’s body after the father called. For hours, a team of emergency service personnel searched the nearby river for the boy. They eventually discovered his body not far from where the attack took place.
Police spokesperson Rohan Shah Ahmad commented on the attack, via The Sun. The police spokesperson said the boy’s body was taken to a local hospital for an autopsy. The crocodile was also nowhere to be found.
“The victim was attacked about 20 meters away from his home,” Ahmad said. “There were severe injuries on the boy’s body including his waist, chest, and stomach. He was pronounced dead at the scene.”
This wasn’t the first time a crocodile attack had been reported in the area. Just a week prior, a teenage boy reports he fought off a crocodile near the river. He said the animal attack him, but he managed to scare it off. It is unknown whether both attacks are linked to the same crocodile.
Currently, emergency services have set up traps to catch the crocodile.
