A woman in Mobile, Alabama survived a bee attack and a tree crashing through her roof and onto her abdomen during Hurricane Sally.

The woman had fallen asleep for “about 20 minutes” when she was jarred awake by a loud noise, according to the New York Post. She opened her eyes to find a tree branch in her bed.

The branch had come crashing through the roof around 4 a.m., FOX10 reported. The woman was pinned beneath it.

“I open my eyes, and to the right of me was a tree branch in the room – in the bed,” she told FOX10. “And to the left, I had a board going across my chest and one going across my legs. So, I wasn’t able to get out to the side. I was able to hear. But I wasn’t able to see because the ceiling come crashing down on around me, also.”

Then the bees began to swarm around her. The woman estimates she was stung at least 15 to 20 times. And as if that weren’t bad enough, the other bugs in the trees began climbing in her ears.

The woman’s husband tried and failed to pull her out of the bed. He called 911, and rescue workers arrived within minutes.

Fire Rescue Captain Dana Tanz told FOX10 that despite the bee stings, the woman lucked out. “One or two inches one way or the other,” he said. “Could have been impaled. You know, could have been crushed.”

Fire Department spokesman Steven Millhouse said the incident was just one of four within three hours in which rescue workers had to save Alabama women trapped by falling trees.

“Roof, joists, ceiling – all of it collapses on top of these women in their beds, and they’re all trapped,” he said.
