California fisherman, Jon Kenyon, got a huge shock during a fishing trip in the Sacramento River on August 30th. Though he’s fished there for 15 years and admits he’s no stranger to odd catches: “lawn chairs and things like that,” he tells KRCR. He never expected to reel in such a threatening catch, though.

During the recent trip, when his line caught hold of a heavy object he thought it may be an anchor. As it reached the boat, though, it was revealed to be a live pipe bomb.

“My father-in-law was like ‘It’s a bomb. Everyone get to the front of the boat'” Kenyon recalls to his local new-station, KRCR.

Jon Kenyon explains they dragged the homemade device to the shore and waited for County sheriffs to arrive. In a press release by the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office, they report that while en route to Kenyon, they received another call reporting a second device.

“I think that they are probably trying to blowup salmon and knocking them out and trying to take them,” assumes the California fisherman on the intention of the sunken bombs.

Many sites continue to share pictures of the devices on Twitter and social channels. KRCR, the local news channel, has shared numerous images of Kenyon and his deadly catch.

The Sheriff’s Office asks anyone venturing into that area of the lake to do so with caution .”The Sheriff’s Office requests all fisherman fishing in this area be careful, it is unknown if they are other devices in the water,” says Sunday’s press release.
