In a video that’s taking over the internet, an elephant is channeling protective mamas everywhere. The incredible footage shows an elephant absolutely trampling a crocodile. The large animal does not relent until the crocodile goes limp.
Though it’s uncertain why the elephant reacted how she did, there’s speculation that she was protecting her young. The whole event happened just as a safari group was traveling by. Onlookers got a rare look at the animal kingdom – in full circle-of-life mode – as the elephant stomps and drags the crocodile around until it’s dead.
“Guests witnessed this dramatic sighting unfold between two of Africa’s most feared mega-fauna,” a worker from the Baines’ River Camp said on their Facebook page, via The Sun.
“Perhaps this was a revenge attack fueled by previous ambush attempts by many a crocodile on her young or the greater herd…While this footage might be difficult to watch, it demonstrates just how raw and tough life is in the bush.”
Additionally, during the scene, the elephant appears to bite the animal and drag it by the tail. It’s truly a shocking scene.
Hippos Devour Crocodile
While it seems like crocodiles would have few predators, as we’ve just seen, that’s not always the case. Similarly, in Africa, it was not this crocodile’s day when a group of hungry hippos got a hold of him. In another crazy scene captured on video, several hippos are absolutely destroying a Nile croc.
The footage is a bit difficult to watch. But it’s just another part of nature. The fight may look unfair, with the group of hippos taking turns mangling the crocodile, the large mammals are not up for taking any chances.
Despite looking fairly harmless – and even quite adorable – hippos are actually very aggressive and dangerous. Weighing thousands of pounds, the animals will fiercely protect their young. They can weigh up to 10,000 pounds and grow to 10 to 15 feet in length.
While crocodiles kill about 1,000 people per year, hippos have been known to kill anywhere between 500 and 3,000, making them more aggressive than people would think.
According to Nature Predator, more people need to understand that hippos are highly aggressive.
“Many of our followers were shocked at the aggression of the Hippo in our last breakdown! So, we decided to take it up a notch to paint the full picture for you….This behavior is very common from the big bully and should be considered the norm for this species, rather than an odd moment out,” the publication states.
The point is, don’t underestimate animals – and steer clear of basically everything that lives in Africa.
