Jonathan Ceplecha was pinned under an oak tree while cutting trees on his property in Minnesota. He was stranded under the oak for four days and survived by eating plants and bugs around him.

Ceplecha is 59-years-old and was found just 300 feet from his residence with the tree pinning both of his feet. Ceplecha teaches English at a high school in Marshall. When he didn’t show up for work on the first day, the school called the police and requested a wellness check.

Since there was no sign of the man in the house, police, Ceplecha’s daughter, and ex-wife searched the property.

The Army veteran ate bugs and plants within arms reach while also drinking sweat and rainwater that he collected with his shirt to quench his thirst.

It took the Redwood Falls Fire Department around two hours to free Ceplecha. He was then airlifted to a hospital in Minneapolis and is said to be in stable condition. Both of his legs are expected to be saved.

“100 Hours”

Chief Deputy Mark Farasyn asked Ceplecha how long he had been stuck under the tree. Without hesitation, he responded, “100 hours”.

Miles Ceplecha, Jonathan’s son, has a GoFundMe page for his father.

“He kept his sanity by breaking down every day into hours, and each hour into 5-minute segments,” says the GoFundMe page. “As someone of a heavy faith, he prayed to himself often, and tried to distract himself from panic by meditating and inventing rhythms to follow from dawn to dusk.”

Since Ceplecha is an Army veteran, most of the expenses are paid through the Veteran’s Administration. The money raised from the GoFundMe will cover the rest of the costs.

The GoFundMe has a goal of $2,000, while already receiving over $1,450 from 44 donors. The page was created 20 hours ago.
