A hunting company in Michigan is under investigation after allegedly breaking numerous state laws.
Dana Nessel, Michigan’s Attorney General, filed a cease and desist order following an investigation on Team Fitzgerald in Tecumseh. The company is a family-run operation with father Dan and his son, Guy Fitzerald, heading it. Team Fitzgerald sells hunting equipment and also offers guided hunting tours.
In addition, the company hosts “Team Fitzgerald Vintage Country Lifestyle,” a television series. The Sportsmans Channel described the men as “pioneers and ministers in hunting, outdoor, and outdoor cooking video, and TV. In this series, you will witness real-world outdoor country lifestyle education & entertainment. The way our Creator intended for things to be, with the ‘throwback’ flavor of vintage ways of country living and self-sustainability.”
Michigan Hunting Company Violations
According to the Michigan Attorney General’s Office and the Better Business Bureau, they have received over 70 complaints in the past year on a number of issues. These issues include the failure to ship orders to consumers in a timely fashion or failure to ship them at all. The failure to deliver guided hunts and services as advertised. Fail to meet contractual obligations after accepting sponsorship money from other businesses. And finally, the failure to adequately address customers’ requests for refunds. Some alleged that the company blocked the email addresses, phone numbers, and social media accounts of people seeking refunds.
In addition, the company has also allegedly threatened to sue customers who contacted the Attorney General about their complaints.
Nessel reports that the issues and threatening legal action in this manner are violations under the Consumer Protection Act. The Attorney General says that they are “aggressively” seeking justice.
“Numerous complaints have been made about this company and its failure to deliver on costly hunting-related trips and products sold to consumers and businesses, and my office will aggressively seek justice as we determine the full extent of any wrongdoing,” Nessel said.
According to ABC 12 News, “Team Fitzgerald may enter an agreement with the Attorney General’s Office to settle pending disputes out of court or may face further sanctions as a result of the investigation.”
