Video: Huge Eagle Attempts to Fly Away Carrying 8-Year-Old Girl

by Jon D. B.

Watch as this enormous golden eagle attacks an 8-year-old girl while she tries to run to safety.

Few raptors – or birds of prey – are larger than the golden eagle. One of the largest birds in the Northern Hemisphere, these magnificent predators are fierce hunters. Incredibly strong, they will take down prey as large as adolescent deer. Or – in this case – an equally-sized and terrified 8-year-old.

AKI Press brings attention to the incident, in which the eagle attempts to fly away carrying the 8-year-old girl. The videographer captures the incident just off of Lake Issyk-Ku in Kyrgyzstan.

While the golden eagle may seem at fault here, the girl was reportedly “wandering around the restricted area”. This restricted area is used to train and show enormous birds of prey. Thankfully, she survives the encounter without critical injuries – and only needs stitches to mend.

Speaking to AKI Press, one of the raptor experts in the area – an active hunter with the birds – clarifies that the girl is very lucky. By looking at the footage, he says the eagle was not looking to hunt or kill her – or she would not have survived.

As the video shows, golden eagles are massive predators. Larger than their well known cousins – the bald eagle – goldens can be up to 40 inches in length. The wingspan of an adult can be anywhere from 5.5 ft – to a whopping 7.5. Knowing this, it becomes far less surprising that the eagle showed no hesitation in taking down an 8-year-old.

Even more shocking to most – the talons of an adult golden eagle are larger than adult human hands. The talon claws themselves, can be three inches in length.

While eagle attacks on humans are rare, they are not unheard of. A bald eagle attack took place at Lake Superior just this past August, in which the raptor sunk all of his talons into the victim.
