Bigfoot Bounty Surpasses $2 Million in Oklahoma

Are you looking to become $2 Million richer? Easy. All you have to do is find, trap, and prove that you located Bigfoot.

There is a catch, however. It has never been done… Because it is fake. So probably don’t bank on seeing that check for $2 million anytime soon.

If there is a Bigfoot running around out there, you may want to hightail it to the Kansas border. Whatever you do, don’t go to Texas, it’s legal to kill a Bigfoot there.

A few weeks ago, Oklahoma state Rep. Justin Humphrey proposed the idea to allow the capture of a live mythical creature, Bigfoot. What started as just a $25,000 prize has now skyrocketed to $2.1 million.

The Sooner State is hoping to rope in some tourists by selling bigfoot decals for just about anything.

“State tourism officials are now developing a Bigfoot promotional campaign that includes license plates, decals, an annual commemorative tracking license, and ‘Bigfoot checkout stations,’” said the New York Post.

Lawmakers have decided to let businesses set up shop along State Highway 259A to sell the necessities for a Bigfoot hunt. You know, the usual, tracking permits, binocular, fairy dust, a magic wand… that type of stuff.

Rep. Justin Humphrey says that he is looking to boost tourism sales for thoughts looking to have safe, healthy, affordable fun.

Save the Bigfoot

Not everyone is happy about the proposed hunt, as Outsider staff writer Josh Lanier reported last month. Bigfoot enthusiasts are enraged that Humphrey is encouraging this to happen to the beast.

“Bigfoot should be protected, not shot,” Gary Robusto told The New York Post. “These creatures should be preserved in their natural environment. Any kind of new species — like a Bigfoot — even needs the protection of some kind of federal law.”

However, Humphrey says the show must go on, and he is sure to punch his ticket for attending the hunt.

“I can promise I am going to be on one of the first hunts, and I guarantee you we will have fun, and that’s what it’s all about,” he told The Oklahoman. “That is what we are trying to promote.”

Others see real reasons behind harm in a hunt—especially one with such a large payday.

“A hunting season is a bad idea all-round — certainly for Bigfoot but also the hunters,” New Yorker Paul Bartholomew said. “You could have hunters hurting themselves, shooting a little haphazardly.”

While we will not be in attendance at any of the festivities, we hope you have fun hiking because, let’s be honest, that’s all you will be doing.
