Merrell Partners With Big Brothers Big Sisters to Help Get Kids Outdoors, Experiencing Nature

Merrell, along with Big Brothers Big Sisters is ensuring that the younger generation will remain active as well as an advocate for the outdoors.

Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) and Merrell are partnering in a multi-year contract. The partnership will initiate getting its members outdoors and making that possible for more youth. Merrell is known for its outdoor and lifestyle footwear and apparel. Now its efforts will allow them to worth with BBBS to create programs and “break down barriers” to the outdoors.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a mentoring program for young people (deemed “Little Brothers” or “Little Sisters”). The adult mentors (called “Big Brothers” or “Big Sisters”) partner up with “Littles.”

Now Merrell is going to help provide experiences outside for Bigs and Little to take part in together. The current times have brought about spending more time indoors and in front of screens. Merrell hopes to change that.

Merrell and Big Brothers Big Sisters Join Forces

This new partnership will create access to the outdoors so Big Brothers Big Sisters can enjoy both the mental and physical benefits of being outside. Merrell is providing outdoor gear, as well as a financial contribution to the organization.

“For many of the young people in our program, simply walking to the park isn’t a possibility,” Artis Stevens, incoming President and CEO of BBBS of America says in a press release. “Partners like Merrell see the value of leveling the playing field so all youth [so they] have the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors.”

“Our partnership with BBBS will bring together our joint missions of getting more youth the access they otherwise would not have in order to foster a lifelong connection to our outside spaces, whether it’s a local park or your front yard,” says Chris Hufnagel, Global Brand President of Merrell.

Partnership Details

Some of the partnership details include developing outdoor guides, resources, and activation to gives to the Bigs and Littles. Additionally, Merrell and BBBS are adding various campaigns to the calendar. The Great Outdoors Month in June and Merrell’s 40th birthday celebration throughout the year are just two examples.

During BBBS Month in September, leaders will have the opportunity to take part in the Step Further Challenge. It’s an interactive event that will track outdoor activities as a friendly competition.
