Somebody’s been watching too much “2001: A Space Odyssey” or aliens are trying to make contact in the waning days of 2020. Another mysterious monolith has appeared this time in California.

Observers discovered the object on a mountain top in California. The structure appears similar to the one in Utah. According to the Atascadero News, the stainless steel obelisk has three sides and stands 10-feet tall. It is also 18 inches wide. The object’s creator welded the metal together at each corner.

According to the local newspaper, the monolith in California is wobbly, like a strong gust of wind might possibly knock it over.

The Utah Monolith Disappeared

People first discovered the monolith in the Utah deserts in mid-November. It soon attracted national attention. A few weeks after it appeared, the object mysteriously vanished just as quickly. A video surfaced showing four men dismantling the object during the night.

Shortly after, BASE jumper and slackliner “Sketchy” Andy Lewis took responsibility for the obelisk’s disappearance. He shared a video in which he said he and three others took the monolith from its location.

“On the night of November 27, 2020, at about 8:30 pm— our team removed the Utah Monolith,” he wrote in the video. “We will not be including any other information, answers, or insight at this time.”

No reason was given for removing the object. But Mike Newlands, a local who witnessed the monolith’s removal, supported getting rid of it. He dismissed it as a “piece of litter” on public property and didn’t appreciate the attention it drew to the area. Many mysteries around the monoliths remain.

No one is sure who creates them or where they come from. Another monolith similar in nature recently appeared in Romania.
