In Yellowstone National Park, an odd scene unfolded. An elk was hit by a vehicle as it was being chased down by a wolf. Thankfully, the entire scene unfolded in plain view of a camera.
On Saturday, May 22, a parade of cars was driving through the park. The video was shot looking back at a white SUV. The vehicle train was driving along the road when all of a sudden, an elk came sprinting out of the woods.
The elk was too concerned with what was behind it to mind the traffic patterns in front. As it jumped into the road, it hit the front passenger door and was immediately knocked down. It looked like the SUV was unharmed in the collision, although something flew high up into the air. The big animal, however, was likely knocked unconcsious when it hit the car.
Not more than a second after the animal collided with the car, a big black wolf came flying out of the woods. It sprinted into the road as well. The wolf saw that the elk was knocked down and swerved to its left to avoid another oncoming car.

According to East Idaho News, Matt Fluke was the vehicle in front of the white SUV. Fluke said that he was driving around 25 miles per hour when the collision happened.
The Yellowstone visitor also noted that it was a little afternoon. Fluke said that he was looking for a spot to enjoy a picnic with his family. For those who know their Yellowstone geography, the collision happened near the Firehole Campground in the Park.
He also said that it was just lucky he had his dash camera rolling. “I didn’t look at my dashcam video until I got back to where we were staying,” Fluke noted. “Originally, I thought it happened behind that car.” We pulled over for a second and saw the elk on the road and the wolf with it.”
As soon as he recognized what had happened, he pulled over to the side of the road. He watched what happened out of his rear window. “We pulled over for a second and saw the elk on the road and the wolf with it.
“There was a turn out real close and lots of other cars stopping around there. You could see it from where we were at, and the car that was behind me pulled over and then pulled out and went down the road,” Fluke recalled. “It was wild.”
