We’ve already tasted a ton of great bourbons on Outsider’s The Double, but we’ve never seen anything quite like the whiskey being served today on the show. A fellow whiskey drinker in the Outsider offices passed along a unique bottle of bourbon for the guys to try out. Brandon knows about it and has done his research, but neither of the co-hosts have ever tried the whiskey.
So, what’s on the menu today on The Double? A bottle of Füklehead Bourbon Whiskey made at Leatherwood Distillery in Pleasant View, Tennessee. At first glance, Jay had to laugh at the bottle’s artwork and name. Then, he looked a little closer at the spirit and seemed a bit skeptical of the bourbon.
“Is it sweet tea?” Jay asked while looking at the whiskey.
“No, it is just bourbon. But it is murky,” Brandon said of Füklehead.
The former NFL quarterback didn’t seem convinced by the bourbon’s first impression. In his defense, Füklehead doesn’t look like your typical bourbon. However, the story of the bourbon made him see it in a new light.
“Leatherwood Distillery, the guy’s name is Andrew Lang. Goes to the Army, tells his Army buddies he can make booze out of an MRE,” Brandon shared. “He boils water, puts I think it’s called shelf bread in the MREs and a packet of Skittles [together]. He closes it up, it ferments, and he makes alcohol out of an MRE.”
“I don’t care what this s**t tastes like, I’m in,” Jay Cutler said as he changed his tune.

Now on to the true test as the guys taste Leatherwood Distillery’s Füklehead Bourbon Whiskey. After Brandon shared the spirit’s story, Jay is on board and ready to try it out.
“But, you know, that doesn’t mean it’s going to be the best bourbon we’ve ever tried,” Brandon added.
“Guess what? I’ll lie,” Cutler hilariously said on The Double.
After tasting their first sip, you can tell the guys had thoughts about the bourbon. Füklehead is definitely different, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
“It tastes young,” Brandon shared.
“It tastes very young, it is thin,” Jay agreed. “I mean if you gave me this at a bar, I’m gonna drink it.”
“I feel like it is a mixer. But I wouldn’t use it in an Old Fashioned, because I don’t think it has the taste. It’s too thin of a taste,” Brandon added. “Travis gave me this kinda for fun, and now I want to go buy all their bottles.”
“Great story, sounds like an awesome guy. A veteran, always support them,” Jay said. “Drinkable. We’re selling it short.”
As the guys bring another episode of The Double to a close, they asked viewers to chime in. Brandon is looking for some other “different” whiskeys to try out on the show. So, feel free to leave a comment under our videos suggesting a whiskey you’d like to see the guys taste on the show. Until next time, cheers, guys!
