Happy New Year, Outsiders. After a brief break for the holiday season, The Marty Smith Podcast is back with a new episode this week. Along with the usual cast and crew of Marty, Wes Blankenship and Travis Rockhold, a special guest joined Marty later on in the episode. That special guest? None other than Duck Dynasty star Willie Robertson.

Before the episode gets to the one-on-one interview between Marty and Willie, the trio kicks off the episode with a little college football talk. Over the weekend, the Georgia Bulldogs and the Alabama Crimson Tide each punched their tickets to the National Championship game on January 10 in Indy. The game will be an SEC title rematch between the Dawgs and Crimson Tide, with the former getting another shot to finally take down Nick Saban and Alabama.

It was indeed a tough loss for the Michigan Wolverines, although co-host Travis, a noted Buckeye superfan and alum, was not all that broken up over the unfortunate ending for Michigan’s season. Still, Marty could not have been more impressed with how head coach Jim Harbaugh handled the loss to Georgia. Marty talks about speaking with the coach after the game and why that moment stuck with him. For Wes, he got to enjoy a big-time win for his Dawgs in dominant fashion. Before shifting to Willie, the boys discussed how it happened and what makes guys on that Kirby Smart defense, like Nakobe Dean, so special and why the team played so ticked off in Miami.

Then, Willie Robertson of Duck Dynasty sits down with Marty to talk about a variety of topics. Some of which include the hiring of Brian Kelly at LSU. Will Kelly succeed in Baton Rouge after thriving for so long at Notre Dame? The guys discuss how all of that will work, as well as the relationship between Phil and Terry Bradshaw.

Many of you may not know that Phil could spin it back in the day. Bradshaw may have gone on to become the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL by the Pittsburgh Steelers and won himself some Super Bowl rings, but before that he played ball at Louisiana Tech with Phil. As Willie tells it on the pod, Phil rarely talks about his playing days with Terry, but a chance encounter brought the two of them together (with a cameo from Joe Montana) at the airport not too long ago. Willie tells Marty all about what happened next. Marty and Willie also get real for a bit, where they talk about their families and how Willie has navigated raising children with the fame around him and the family.
