2020 Tokyo Olympics: Michael Phelps Gets Fired Up for Return of Golf with Shirtless Selfie

He may be a swimmer, but Olympics gold-medalist Michael Phelps is looking forward to some Tokyo Olympics golf. The Olympics swimming icon shares a shirtless fan photo as he gets ready to cheer on Team USA during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics golf tournament

Champion Olympic swimmer, Michael Phelps took to social media this week to show his support for the United State’s golf team in a shirtless selfie. The selfie, which was shared by the Golf Channel, shows Phelps cheering on USA Olympics golfer Justin Thomas.

“Let’s go @justinthomas34,” Phelps noted in the selfie. “Screaming @ the tv from the hotel room.”

The Golf Channel’s Twitter post was all over the support the event was received from the Olympic great.

“Michael Phelps is ready for Olympic golf #TokyoOlympics,” the post read. The Golf Channel added a little golf emoji to the message.

The swimmer also sends a shout-out to other members of the United States Olympics golf team in the social media post.

“G1 boy!” the swimmer cheered in a caption added to the photo. The swimmer then added to his mention of USA golfer Justin Thomas by mentioning some of the other team USA golfers, Alexander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, and Patrick Reed.

“@zanderschauffele @collin_morikawa @preedgolf,” Phelps continued in his message added to his fan-selfie.

An Olympics Icon

Michael Phelps has taken the Olympics by storm in past years. So far, Michael Phelps is the most decorated Olympics athlete of all time. In all, the swimming great has taken home twenty-eight medals. Twenty-three gold medals, three silver, and two bronze medals.

While the swimmer has been named the most decorated Olympian of all time, he also holds the record for the most gold medals awarded to an individual. Michael Phelps also holds the record for the most gold medals in individual events, for which the swimmer has earned thirteen. Phelps also holds the record for Olympics medals overall (other than gold) in sixteen events.

During the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Michael Phelps won eight gold medals, swimming to first-place finishes in eight events. This broke the record that was held by Mark Spitz since 1972.

In the 2012 London Summer Olympics, Phelps won four gold medals and two silvers. In 2016, the swimming champion took on the Rio de Janeiro Olympics winning five gold medals and one silver. Michael Phelps has been named the most successful Olympic athlete for four Olympics in a row.

We Are All Ready For Some Olympic Golf!

The 2020 Olympic golfing events have just begun in Tokyo.

This year marks the second straight Olympics event to host the golf competition in over 100 years. No wonder Phelps was so pumped for the event!

The 2020 Olympics golf tournament began at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Tokyo time, which was 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28.

The four-round tournaments airing live on the Golf Channel. The NBC Sports Network will be airing a replay of the final round on Sunday afternoon. The entire tournament is available for streaming through NBC at NBCOlympics.com and through the NBC Sports app.
