2020 Tokyo Olympics: Piers Morgan Calls Out Simone Biles for ‘Quitting’

Never one to hold back on expressing his opinion, British television personality Piers Morgan is calling gymnastics legend Simone Biles out for “quitting” the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

In his own article on the DailyMail platform, Piers Morgan discusses Biles’ brand and what makes her stand out from other Olympic athletes.

“Biles didn’t choose a goat to personify her brand because they’re her favorite animal,” he explains. “She chose it because in sporting terms, it stands for G.O.A.T. or Greatest Of All Time. And I have no problem with that.”

Morgan then says he likes his sporting champions to be “cocky little devils,” when they have the ability and medals to back the confidence up. “And they don’t get much cockier than Ms. Biles,” He states. Piers also recalls interviewing the Olympian on Good Morning Britain a couple of years ago, where she “radiated” so much self-confidence that he thought she might self-combust on set.

Piers Morgan Speaks His Mind About Simone Biles

But things took a turn in the article when Piers Morgan spoke out about Simone’s decision to remove herself from the team and individual events during the 2020 Olympics. While discussing her mistakes on the Amanar vault, Morgan states that the athlete looked annoyed with herself and then did something he didn’t expect.

“But rather than dust herself down and battle on for Gold, as she did in 2018, she did something which absolutely staggered me. She quit.”

Piers then states that Biles left her team to fight on without their leader and supreme motivational champion. Instead of winning the Gold, they came in second in the 2020 Olympics. The Russians took Gold instead. “Biles said she wasn’t carrying an injury,” Morgan explains.

He also quotes Simone, who previously shared, “Physically, I feel good. I’m in shape. Emotional, that kind of varies on the time and moment. Coming to the Olympics and being head star isn’t an easy feat.”

Piers ran with the comment by noting, “Head star… hmm… there’s that GOAT ego rearing its head again. But if you’re going to call yourself the Greatest of All Time and ‘head star’ then you’re putting a lot of that pressure on yourself, aren’t you?”

Morgan wasn’t finished. He also quoted Biles when she said at this year’s Olympics she wanted it to be for herself, but she came in and felt the pressure of doing it for other people.

“Sorry, WHAT? You’re not just at these Games for yourself, Simone,” Piers proclaims. He says that she is part of Team USA and representing the US and hundreds of millions of American people watching. “Not to mention all the sponsors who’ve paid huge sums to support you.”

Piers also proclaims that he doesn’t think it’s remotely courageous, heroic, or inspiring for Simone to quit. “I preferred the old Simone that would do whatever it took to win.”

Piers Morgan Receives Criticism After Expressing His Opinion About Simone’s 2020 Olympics Withdrawal

Upon receiving backlash about his comments towards the 2020 Olympics participant, Piers Morgan took to his Twitter account and tweeted, “So, to sum up today’s big Simone Biles debate, snowflake Twitter is 100% adamant that walking out on teammates at work is brave, strong, inspiring, and iconic. And anyone who does it should be celebrated as one of the world’s great heroes. Good to know.”

Also in the tweet, the television personality shows a clip of him walking off stage after a heated discussion about Meghan Markle.
