2020 Tokyo Olympics: Simone Biles’ Birth Mom Speaks Out About Daughter Withdrawing From Team Final

by Josh Lanier

Simone Biles’ birth mom had only one thing to say when asked about her daughter’s withdrawal from the Olympics team gymnastic competition Tuesday.

“She’s gonna be okay,” Shanon Biles told The Daily Mail.

Simone Biles is the best gymnast in the world, but she pulled herself out of the final day of competition “to focus on my wellbeing,” she told reporters.

“I’m OK,” she said. “Just dealing with some things internally which will get fixed out in the next couple of days.”

Simone Biles has been open about her struggles with depression and anxiety in the past.

She told Today’s Hoda Kotb that “Physically, I feel good, I’m in shape. Emotionally, that kind of varies on the time and moment. Coming here to the Olympics and being the head star isn’t an easy feat, so we’re just trying to take it one day at a time and we’ll see.”

Her exit allowed the Russian team to claim the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Team USA took home the silver and Great Britain earned a bronze medal.

Shannon Biles refused to comment any further when a Daily Mail reporter reached her at her Ohio home.

Shannon, 49, had to give up her children to foster parents when Simone was 3. She said she is now sober and has pulled her life together after struggling with drug addiction for years.

Simone’s maternal grandparents took her in and officially adopted her when she was 6. They raised her the rest of her life, the Daily Mail said.

Biles Celebrates Silver Medal at Tokyo Olympics

Simone Biles proudly posed with her team in an Instagram post holding their silver medals.

“OLYMPIC SILVER MEDALISTS 🤍,” she wrote on the post.

“I’m SO proud of these girls right here. You girls are incredibly brave & talented! I’ll forever be inspired by your determination to not give up and to fight through adversity! They stepped up when I couldn’t. thanks for being there for me and having my back! forever love y’all.”

Jordan Chiles, who stepped in for Biles after she stepped out, replied to the post, calling the 24-year-old an inspiration.

“You will forever be loved. We can’t thank you enough. You have such a huge inspiration on all of us. We wouldn’t have done it without you🥺💕 love you mo 🤞🏾❤️,” she posted.

Cameras captured the moment Biles told the team that she was pulling out of the competition. Ever the team leader, Biles assures them that she’ll be OK, and they’ll do fine without her.

“Look, you guys go out there and do what you’re trained to do,” she’s overheard telling them. “It is what it is. I’m sorry, I love you guys, but you’re going to be just fine. …

“You guys have trained your whole entire lives for this, it’s fine. I’ve been to an Olympics, I’ll be fine, this is your first. Go out there and kick a**, OK?”
