During a recent podcast appearance, FOX Sports announcer Joe Buck might have shared a little too much information when he revealed that he’s used the bathroom while calling an NFL touchdown in the past.
The 52-year-old is currently working as the announcer for the World Series alongside Hall of Fame pitcher John Smoltz. The duo called the opening game between the Atlanta Braves and Houston Astros last night. And they’ll be back in the booth later tonight for Game 2.
But the famous sports broadcaster isn’t just a baseball announcer. He’s covered NFL games including multiple Super Bowls during his long career. In fact, Joe Buck was even inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame earlier this year in August. Yet while speaking on the “SmartLess” podcast that came out Monday, he might have been a little too honest about needing to take a bathroom break during one game.
“I’ve peed in a bottle while calling an NFL touchdown. I swear to god,” Buck said on the podcast. “I was peeing in a trash can and they handed me a little water bottle…We came back from a break and I was peeing and the action started. And I called a touchdown while urine was coming out of me.”
Most folks could’ve gone our whole lives without knowing this information about Joe Buck. However, since we know about it, we figured it was only fair that you do too. Buck even remembered the exact game. He said it happened as he called an Atlanta Falcons versus Green Bay Packers game back in 1994.
In his defense, it sounds like he’s planned out his bathroom breaks a bit better for the last 27 years. Viewers and listeners at home are surely grateful.
Joe Buck Creates Controversy When Revealing He Drank Tequila in Broadcast Booth with Troy Aikman
On most Sundays during the NFL season, fans will hear announcers Joe Buck and Troy Aikman calling a game on FOX Sports. His recent using the bathroom in the broadcast booth story is fairly innocent. But another story he revealed earlier this year got himself and Aikman both in hot water.
While speaking to Colin Cowherd on his podcast The Volume, Buck admitted to having a drink in the booth here and there.
“We have had that glass of bourbon in the booth. Although it’s not bourbon, it’s tequila, splash of Grand Marnier, and grapefruit juice,” Buck told Cowherd. “I went through a couple years where in the first inning of every postseason baseball game, I had the runner go get the biggest beer that the stadium sold. And I had it sitting there, and I would sip it from time to time to remind myself to relax and have fun. I’m just doing a game.”
“We haven’t done it in a long time now, but it was good for a stretch,” he added. “I feel like it’s a good mental trigger to just chill and remind yourself that you’re not refueling a F-16 in mid-flight. You’re doing a sporting event, and if you treat it like anything other than that you’re doing yourself a disservice.”
