Making new traditions! The Auburn Tigers introduced their latest pregame tradition during their first game of the season on Saturday (September 4th) against the University of Akron Zips.

Players from Auburn, Derick Hall and Shaun Shivers, ran onto the field with the school’s flag as well as the American flag. Hall was seen carrying the American flag while Shivers carried the Auburn flag.

According to Auburn Live, the player selected to carry the American flag due to his “unifying force,” which notably represents the University’s highest standards and ideals. Meanwhile, the player who carries the Auburn flag, or “Battle Cry flag,” will represent all it means to be an Auburn Tiger.

The media outlet also stated that the newly established tradition was well-received by Auburn fans as well as players. It will continue this Saturday as the Tigers take on the Alabama State Hornets. Kick off for Saturday’s game is set for 11 a.m. CT.

Along with carrying the American flag onto the football field, the Auburn Tigers honored the 13 military servicemen and women who died during the airport attack in Kabul. The University left 13 seats empty at its Jordan-Hare Stadium during the Akron game and decorated the charts with a military cap and photos of each military personnel.

Bryan Harsin Shares Details About His Decision to Become Auburn’s Head Football Coach

This is the first season for Auburn’s new head coach Bryan Harsin. He previously was the head coach at Arkansas State in 2013 before going to Boise State from 2014 until 2020. His overall record is 77-24 with a 3-2 bowl game record.

During a recent interview on “The Jim Rome Show,” Harsin opened up about joining the Auburn coaching staff. “As a competitor, this is the type of opportunity that you look for. You want to compete against the best. You want to be part of the opportunity to be the best yourself.”

Harsin also stated that if a player comes to the University’s football program, there are things he and his coaching staff, as well as the players, want to achieve. “The competition, the coaching. There’s no shortage of greatness when it comes to the teams you’re going to play. But that’s exactly what you want to be a part of.”

Harsin then shared that his decision to come to Auburn also had to do with having a cache to develop a program. “[The program] that can go compete with those teams and win those games and be a championship-caliber team consistently.”

During the 2021 football season, the Auburn Tigers will be going against Penn State, Georgia State, LSU, and Georgia. The team will also take on South Carolina, Mississippi, and Alabama later on in the season.
