Ben Roethlisberger Signs New Contract with Pittsburgh Steelers, Fans Go Insane

by Evan Reier

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is coming back for another ride. It comes to no surprise, but it is now official.

The Pittsburgh Steelers dropped the awaited news on Thursday, posting to the team’s website about getting Big Ben to come back with a new contract.

It was a necessary decision for the Steelers, as the team’s tight cap space has been a looming issue since the team’s 2020 campaign ended.

The longtime quarterback released a statement on the deal:

“It is my greatest honor to be a Pittsburgh Steeler and give my all for this organization,” Roethlisberger said. “I am grateful to be at this stage of my career and more than happy to adjust my contract in a way that best helps the team to address other players who are so vital to our success. I love this game and love to compete, and I believe in this team and my ability to deliver when called upon. It all starts with great preparation and I am ready to go.”

While the six-time Pro Bowler is excited to come back for another year, fans are divided.

Fans React to Pittsburgh Steelers Signing Ben Roethlisberger to New Contract

Roethlisberger’s entering the final years of his playing career, and has regressed to a degree. While he will forever be loved in Pittsburgh, many fans have debated whether he is still the man for the job.

This was one of the immediate points of discussion after the news.

“i have mixed feelings. love Ben but i saw parts of him start to deteriorate last season. i am holding out hope that, because he lost the way he did at the end of the season, he’ll come back motivated and ready” @KingTJWatt wrote.

Another user predicts mediocrity for Pittsburgh:

“8-8 season underway. Should have started Haskins.”

Another user, @DonOfMikuMafia, gives a similar diagnosis.

“Congrats on that 9-7 record. Who’s ready for some of the most predictable offense in the league”

Of course, there’s plenty of fans who are excited to have a team legend return for another season after some uncertainty.

@AmirAbdallah20 tweets out his support and confidence:

“Let’s be real, it’s over the league. My Steelers got our top 5 QB back and we’re gonna be ready to win the super bowl now. We have cap space and won’t get cheated by the refs so we won’t lose again”

@DovePicks also fires at the haters, backing Roethlisberger for a good season.

“King is back for one more! Nobody is going to like it let’s go @_BigBen7
