Billy Ray Cyrus Celebrates Los Angeles Dodgers World Series Victory

by Josh Lanier

Billy Ray Cyrus is thrilled to see another championship come to Los Angeles. The Dodgers diehard tweeted his excitement after the team rallied Tuesday night to top the Tampa Bay Rays and clinch their first World Series in 32 years.

“Tinsel town is Title town! Congratulations LA @Dodgers!!!!!!! #WorldSeries,” he tweeted Wednesday.

Los Angeles truly is becoming Title Town. The LeBron James-led Lakers won the NBA championship earlier this month as well. It’s the first time since 1988 the two teams have topped their sports in the same year, the LA Times said.

Billy Ray Cyrus The Baseball Player

Billy Ray Cyrus was nearly a Dodger himself. Earlier this year, he told that he’d dreamed of being a professional baseball player as a kid. Though this was more than some idle hope. He was good enough to be scouted by the Dodgers. But fate intervened in the form of a Neil Diamond concert, and his life completely changed.

“I was a ballplayer. I was going to be the catcher for the Cincinnati Reds,” Cyrus told the website. “Or the Dodgers. That was my backup team, the Dodgers. I wanted to be Johnny Bench, but the Dodgers were scouting me. And I would have said yes to either. But I went to a Neil Diamond concert. I won tickets coincidentally in this odd, meant-to-be way, that I was supposed to be there. And I went to Charleston, West Virginia. First time I ever won anything, that’s how I know it was meant to be. I never won anything, I won these tickets on the radio and Neil Diamond touched my light that night.

“I saw the power of a song and witnessed the power of an entertainer holding an audience in their hands and representing God’s light and God’s love through the music,” he continued. “And I felt at that moment that was my purpose, and the next day traded my catcher’s mitt in for a left-handed guitar and started a band and didn’t look back for 10 years.”

Though Cyrus gave up on his dreams on the field, things seemed to have worked out for multi-platinum, award-winning singer/songwriter.
