Brett Favre, Most-Sacked QB of NFL History, Reveals Most Memorable Tackles of His Career

Brett Favre has been sacked more than any other quarterback in NFL history. Over the course of his 19-year career, the Hall of Famer went down behind the line of scrimmage a whopping 525 times. In an interview with Eric Bolling, Farve looks back on some of the most memorable sacks of his career.

Brett Favre Is “No Joke to Tackle”

Bolling asked Favre if he had ever played against New York Giants’ Lawrence “L.T.” Taylor. Favre recalls, “His last play, very last play, was the sack on me. Blew out his Achilles.” With a chuckle, the Hall of Famer jokingly added, “I’m no joke to tackle”.

Taylor wouldn’t be the only NFL figure to end on a Favre sack. Brett Favre played in the final game held at Cleveland Browns Stadium. NFL Veteran Clay Matthews Sr. sacked him during that game. Looking back, Favre remembers thinking it was “pretty cool” to be sacked by Matthews in the stadium’s final game.

The Cold Hard Ground

Favre remembers a game in Green Bay against the Raiders that contained a memorable hit. The wind chill was 35 degrees below zero and the ground was frozen solid. He recalls that the only person who wasn’t having trouble standing on the field was fellow Hall of Famer Howie Long. This ability to stand led to Long sacking Favre. It was later discovered that the Raiders’ defensive end was wearing baseball spikes which explains his ability to navigate the frozen turf.

You Always Remember Your First

Brett Favre started 297 consecutive games. He played for almost twenty years and was on four different teams. Keeping the streak alive was never really a concern for Favre, though. When talking about ending his streak he had this to say. “There was no reason to play except to keep the streak alive. I never played for that anyway.”

In the game before his streak started, Green Bay quarterback coach Mike Holmgren put Favre in late in the game. The Packers were already losing by a wide margin. In Favre’s eyes, he was going to save the day. In his youthful naivete he took the field believing he would go and bring back the win.

On his first play, a bootleg pass, another player tipped the ball back to Favre. He knew exactly what to do in that moment. “Catch it and score”. Before he could make it down the field, he was sacked. Instead of bringing home the win, the future Hall of Famer lost seven or eight yards.

Roethlisberger, Brady Closing the Gap on Brett Favre

Favre currently holds the record for most-sacked quarterback in the NFL. Ben Roethlisberger and Tom Brady are currently working on beating that record. The challengers for the record have gone down behind the line of scrimmage 511 and 508 times respectively.
