Bubba Wallace Calls Second-Place Finish at Daytona a ‘Success’ in New Photos

by Quentin Blount

NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace won’t be headed to the Cup Series playoffs, but he did finish strong at Daytona on Saturday.

Wallace, the driver of the No. 23 Toyota Camry for 23XI Racing, earned himself a second-place finish on Saturday night at the Coke Zero Sugar 400. He was able to hold down second place at the end (Ryan Blaney finished first), despite a two-lap restart thanks to a huge crash late in the race. Kevin Harvick got turned by Daniel Suarez leading to the crash. It reminded us of when Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski crashed at the end of the Daytona 500 back in February.

Now, there is no question that Bubba Wallace needed the win at Daytona International Speedway. And he did everything in his power to come away with one. However, he came up just one spot short. When asked about what was going through his mind at the end of the race, he said he was just trying to, “stay in it.”

“Stay in it, that’s all you can do,” Wallace said after the race. “It’s good to give us a finish we deserved. I don’t think we were a winning car, so I can’t hang my head too much, but knowing that we needed a win and we came up just short stings a little bit.”

He may have come up a little short and missed the playoffs, but the 23XI Racing driver ended the year on a high note. And he looked good doing so in his Columbia-sponsored paint scheme.

“It’s a success if you can finish @Daytona in one piece, let alone come home with a P2!” Wallace wrote on Twitter. “Glad to get #TeamTarpon out front. @Columbia1938 @23XIRacing”

Fans of Bubba Wallace Congratulate Him on Second-Place Finish

We all know that Bubba Wallace has a lot of critics. This season has been a tough one for both Wallace and 23XI Racing. But there is definitely a reason for hope, especially after his second-place finish on Saturday. His fans took to Twitter to remind him of that.

“So damn proud of you Bubba! You were so close! You’ll get a W very soon, I know it!” one person said. “Keep on fighting and thanks for taking that beautiful paint out front where the haters could see it!”

“Glad to see you get @23XIRacing a good finish,” another fan wrote. “When the seas parted, all I could think is FINALLY, some good luck. Car didn’t look as stout as the #Daytona500 piece but momentum, nonetheless.”

And finally, one NASCAR fan shared an adorable story about her granddaughter looking for Wallace’s McDonald’s car.

“Granddaughter (4 years old) was up late last nite hoping to see you win,” one fan commented. “She was looking for the ‘Donald’s’ car the whole time. Lol! When I showed her this one she said, ‘that’s my second frav-rit car Amma!!’ She’s your biggest fan!!!”
