Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid, son of Head Coach Andy Reid, admits he was drinking before injuring two kids in a car crash.
Reid’s confession of what happened comes two days before the Chiefs play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV in Tampa, Fla.
The Chiefs released a statement on Friday afternoon regarding Britt Reid, 35, and the crash that happened on Thursday night.
“The organization has been made aware of a multi-vehicle accident involving Outside Linebackers Coach, Britt Reid,” according to the team’s statement. “We are in the process of gathering information, and we will have no further comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved.”
A search warrant was issued just before midnight Thursday night. A Kansas City Police Department officer said they could smell “a moderate odor of alcoholic beverages.” The officer also said that Reid’s eyes were bloodshot and red.
Britt Reid Admits To Having Two To Three Drinks
Britt Reid said that he had two to three drinks, according to the search warrant application. He also said he took Adderall by prescription.
The crash happened shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday on southbound Interstate 435 near Eastwood Trafficway. It is one exit south of the Chiefs’ practice facility at the Truman Sports Complex.
A Chevrolet Impala, according to police, had run out of gas and was sitting on the I-435 entrance ramp. Well, a family member of the ones in the Impala called for help and someone arrived in a Chevrolet Traverse. That car parked in front of the Impala.
Britt Reid, driving a Dodge Ram Laramie truck, was coming up the entrance ramp and hit the Impala. The truck continued forward and also hit the Traverse. Two children were inside the Traverse, a 5-year-old that suffered life-threatening injuries and a 4-year-old who suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
There has been no word about Reid’s status for the Sunday game.
