An upcoming series on Netflix will detail the life story of Colin Kaepernick. From his upbringing in California to his journey to the NFL. Today, Kaepernick shared the first video look at the series which is set to premiere this fall exclusively on Netflix.
As a biographical series, viewers will see Kaepernick grow up. Jaden Michael plays the young version of the former NFL quarterback. Watch below.
The video starts with Colin Kaepernick standing in the middle of an empty room, he is in all-black. Then it flashes to Jaden Michael playing a young Kaepernick, going through scenes of his life. Embracing new and old friends, playing football, and going through life as a teenager. Each scene shows a different scene and different characters that viewers will likely get to know during the series. A bit of a montage, the young Kaepernick can be seen playing basketball, trying new hairstyles, and winning a football game.
The overall message is, “Become who we are destined to be.” That is how Kaepernick closes the video as it zooms in on his face and fades to the title and then the Netflix logo. Viewers can catch Colin in Black and White on October 29th only on Netflix. With help from director Ava DuVernay, this could be a solid project. It has the material to work with, but it remains to be seen how it will be in its entirety.
Colin Kaepernick Early Years
While growing up in California, Colin Kaepernick didn’t just become a successful football player. He showed promise in multiple sports but stuck with the gridiron. As more of a baseball prospect out of high school than football, he only received one football offer. University of Nevada, Reno extended an offer and Kaepernick took it and headed out to play in Reno.
It turned out to be a great bet by the Wolf Pack. By the time that he was done at the school, Kaepernick threw for over 10,000 yards and 82 touchdowns. That was in addition to the work he did on the ground. Those rushing stats gave him another 4000 yards and almost 60 touchdowns in his collegiate career. There are few quarterbacks who can boast similar numbers playing for a Division 1 program.
Of course, he would go on to be drafted in the NFL. During his time in the league, he took the San Fransisco 49ers to the Super Bowl. After the kneeling controversy, it was not a good road for Kaepernick. However, it wouldn’t stay that way.
Eventually, the NFL settled a lawsuit with Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid. The original complaint alleged that the two athletes had been blackballed by the league for their protests. Now, the activist is getting his own Netflix series.
