Conor McGregor Denies Fight with Machine Gun Kelly, Doesn’t Fight ‘Vanilla Boy Rappers’

by Josh Lanier

The Notorious One threw shade — and a drink — at Machine Gun Kelly after a fight at the MTV VMAs Sunday night. Conor McGregor and the singer got into a shoving match before security split them up. But the MMA legend says it didn’t happen because he only fights fighters and not “vanilla boy rappers.”

How the fight started is unclear. Early reports said McGregor asked for a photo with Kelly but the 31-year-old refused. McGregor doesn’t take rejection well. So, he went after Kelly. The 33-year-old fighter allegedly threw his drink at Kelly. Though some reports say the drink spilled during the ensuing scuffle.

Afterward, Conor McGregor said the fight didn’t happen.

“Absolutely nothing. I don’t know. He showed up, and I don’t know. I don’t know the guy,” McGregor told Entertainment Tonight after the dustup.

“Nothing happened with me, I only fight real fighters, people that actually fight, you know what I mean,” he continued. “I certainly don’t fight little vanilla boy rappers — I don’t even know the guy. I don’t know anything about him, except that he’s with Megan Fox.”

But that’s not what video of the incident or first-hand accounts say happened.

One source told Page Six that security struggled to keep the situation from turning violent.

“[McGregor] was ready to throw fists,” they told the gossip page. “Security was having trouble holding him back.”

Conor McGregor Vs. MGK: The Tale of the Tape

Conor McGregor is in a pink suit jacket, and MGK is wearing Megan Fox, who spent the night draped over her boyfriend. McGregor starts the fight off with a big, aggressive move, darting in for a quick takedown. Unfortunately, security was anticipating something like this, and they countered by locking up the Irishman in a standing hold. The fighter breaks free and goes in again, but security is there once more. After the second time, red carpet handlers decided it would be best to just get Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox out of the area rather than try to stop McGregor. That’s when he threw his drink.

This is technically The Notorious One’s first public fight since he broke his leg in the octagon against Dustin Poirier.

McGregor can claim what he wants. He’s a world-class talker with a temper to back it up. So, trying to rip MGK’s head off over a photo seems “on brand” for the Irishman. But there’s no confirmation from MGK or the VMAs over what happened just before McGregor went after the singer/rapper.

Whatever it was, it passed quickly. Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox walked the red carpet just after the fight, and he didn’t seem that bothered by the situation. And MTV allowed McGregor into Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
