Dak Prescott truly cares about Dallas, his adopted hometown. As a series of winter storms crippled the city this week, the Cowboys quarterback wanted to help the most vulnerable.
Dak Prescott paid for meals to feed the homeless. He donated to the non-profit OurCalling, a faith-based charity that helps homeless people.
The charity tweeted about Prescott’s gift. Actor Matthew McConaughey, a native Texan who lives in Austin, also donated money for meals. The non-profit posted:
“Opening an emergency weather shelter for nearly 1,000 homeless individuals in Dallas at the Convention Center has been our most difficult task. But we are thankful and encouraged that @McConaughey and @dak are sending support to purchase meals for the individuals and families.
Dak Prescott Living Through Miserable Weather After Contending Through Bad 2020
Dak Prescott and Matthew McConaughey are living through the miserable winter weather. Millions of Texans have suffered through snow, ice and record-breaking frigid temperatures for the past week. The storms have caused mass power and water outages. At one point, all 254 counties in Texas were under a winter storm warning. That’s unprecedented.
Now, imagine how much worse it is if you’re living on the streets. The non-profit turned parts of the Dallas Convention Center in downtown into a temporary homeless shelter.
Dak Prescott has yet to tweet about the ongoing disaster in the state. But McConaughey tweeted: “I am sending prayers of resilience and the humanity of the helping hand out to all Texans that are struggling with the freeze.” He also said he’s helped three other non-profits in Austin tasked with feeding those in need.
Meanwhile, Dak Prescott, who is a Louisiana native, has lived in Dallas since 2016. He’s the popular quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys. And he’s been living through miserable experiences of his own.
Prescott suffered a horrific leg injury in week five of the 2020 season against the New York Giants. Prescott dislocated his ankle and needed surgery to repair a compound fracture. He still was mourning the death of his brother, who committed suicide in April.
The quarterback already is generous with his city. He has his own non-profit called Faith Fight Finish. He dedicated it to the memory of his mother, Peggy, who died of cancer while Prescott was playing for Mississippi State.The foundation said it focuses on fighting cancer and those facing hardship.
Meanwhile, Deshaun Watson, the quarterback for the Houston Texans, donated meals to help his city’s police officers.
