If you’re a fan of former Indy Car driver Danica Patrick, then you definitely know about her driving skills on the track. But did you know that one of her goals is to run a marathon?
The 38-year-old former racer is known for breaking barriers. After all, she is the most successful woman in the history of American open-wheel racing. Her victory at the 2008 Indy Japan 300 is the only win by a woman in an IndyCar Series race.
She also made history with the highest finish ever for a female driver at the Indy 500. But Patrick is not entirely satisfied with her long and successful driving career. She has always preached following her dreams, focusing on her desired outcome, and achieving her goals. And that is exactly why now is the perfect time for her to run a marathon.
She took to social media on Sunday morning to share her thought process with fans and followers.
“I have only ever had one bucket list item. 1! That is to do a marathon,” Patrick wrote alongside her newest Instagram pic. “So, why not do the most famous and apparently hardest one…. Boston.”
In addition to posting a selfie in her new workout clothes, Danica Patrick also gives a shout-out to her training crew.
“Can’t think of better training partners than my ride or die fitness crew – @brooke_selman and @ebunt187,” she said. “Let the logging miles begin! And let them start REALLY early out here in AZ! 😜🥵”
Danica Patrick Was the Pace Car Driver at the Indy 500
Even though Danica Patrick is not racing competitively anymore, she did return to Indianapolis Motor Speedway in late May. The former Indy Car driver was named as the pace car driver for the 2021 Indy 500. To announced the big news, the track organization took to social media.
“From leading the race in 2005 to setting the pace in 2021. Please help us welcome @danicapatrick as the driver of the @teamchevy Corvette Stingray pace car for the 105th Running of the #Indy500 on May 30th.”
And despite never actually winning the Indy 500 herself, Danica Patrick does have a history racing there. As Indianapolis Motor Speedway mentions in their post, Patrick held the lead at three different points during the 2005 Indy 500. And in 2010, Patrick finished in third place. That feat was the highest-ever finish for a female driver at the iconic race.
