The Detroit Lions have placed their starting quarterback, Matthew Stafford, on the Reserve COVID-19 list, according to the team’s official Twitter account.

The NFL’s Reserve COVID-19 list is for players who test positive or are in close contact with someone who tested positive. The Lions did not announce which of the two lists Stafford is on.

The Lions quarterback wasn’t at practice on Wednesday, per The Athletic’s Chris Burke. Burke reports that Chase Daniel and David Blough were splitting reps in Stafford’s place.

Detroit released a statement on Twitter Wednesday detailing the recent news.

“This reserve list category was created for a player who either tests positive for COVID-19 or who has been quarantined after having been in close contact with an infected person or persons,” the tweet says. “If a player falls into either of these categories, their club is required to immediately place the player on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Per agreed upon NFL-NFLPA policy, clubs are not permitted to comment on player’s medical status other than referring to roster status. Clubs may not disclose whether player is in quarantine or is positive for COVID-19.”

Matthew Stafford is coming off one of his best statistical games of the season, as he threw for 336 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception in their loss to the Colts.

Twitter Loses it

On Twitter, Lions fans have already begun losing their minds. Many of them tweeted their frustration directly at the team.

Well-known Lions fan Andy Isaac was one of the first fans to tweet about the team losing Stafford.

“ffs,” he wrote on Twitter.

Another fan, meanwhile, posted a photo of Toy Story’s “Woody,” with a blank look of defeat on his face.

Similarly, another Twitter user sent a tweet of a kid with a blank stare on his face. Alongside the tweet was the saying “What is life?”
