Diego Maradona Former Team Unveils Special Jersey Honoring Legend After His Death

Following the death of soccer legend, Diego Maradona, his former team will commemorate their fallen star. Napoli will wear special jerseys that honor Maradona and represent the bond between Argentina and the people of Naples. Other commemorations include a moment of silence, black armbands, a portrait displayed throughout the game on the large screen, and possibly a brief pause in the tenth minute of the game to honor his number ten jersey.

As the announcer mentions, “the stripes very much reflecting a balance between Napoli and Argentina.”

Diego Maradona Career

The Argentinian soccer player is widely regarded as one of the top players of the 1980s. Many experts also regard him as the best soccer player of all time. Some of his greatest assets include his extreme control of the ball and his incredible ability to create scoring opportunities. He created these opportunities not only for himself but also for his teammates.

Diego Maradona led his teams to championships in Argentina, Italy, and Spain. He also starred on the Argentina National Team that won the World Cup in 1986. He was a soccer prodigy, displaying a natural talent from a young age. After a lot of success in Argentina, Maradona started playing in Spain with FC Barcelona. With Barcelona, Maradona helped them win a Spanish Cup.

He gained his most fame and success when he moved to Naples in 1984. He raised a struggling program to one of the top teams in Italy. Notably, he helped them win a league title and cup in 1987 and another title in 1990. Finally, his European career came to an end in 1991 when police found him with cocaine in Argentina. He played a few more years in Argentina before retiring. He died on November 25 of this year from heart failure.

Lorenzo Insigne Scores, Honors Maradona

In the Napoli game against Roma in which Napoli commemorated Diego Maradona, Lorenzo Insigne performed a special celebration following a goal. After a beautiful free-kick goal, Insigne ran to the sidelines to grab a Maradona jersey. He held up the jersey and kissed the name several times, honoring the soccer legend’s name.
