President Donald Trump gave thanks to NFL legend Brett Favre today for his recent endorsement. The president held a campaign rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
“I also want to thank a legendary champion and a Green Bay Packer, Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre, for his endorsement,” the President said at his rally today.
“He’s a tough guy, he’s great. Two days ago I saw him endorse me and I just want to thank him,” Trump told his supporters. “He’s a hell of a champion. I look at some of his records, you don’t even realize it when you look at passing yards and touchdowns. But one thing about him, he’s tough as hell and really talented.”
Brett Favre Endorses Donald Trump for 2020 Election
Brett Favre is the latest sports icon to endorse President Donald Trump in his re-election bid on Nov. 3. Boston Bruins’ legend Bobby Orr and golf legend Jack Nicklaus, 80, both recently endorsed President Trump as well.
The former Green Bay Packer announced via Twitter he was endorsing Trump.
Favre said he believed in Second Amendment rights as well as freedom of speech and religion. He believes Trump embodies these principles and values of hard-working citizens.
In the tweet, Favre wrote, “My Vote is for what makes this country great, freedom of speech & religion, 2nd Amnd, hard-working tax-paying citizens, police & military. In this election, we have freedom of choice, which all should respect. For me & these principles, my Vote is for @RealDonaldTrump.”
Favre’s endorsement comes less than a week after he spoke with the president about issues related to sports and ratings. Favre appeared on a town hall session of America This Week where he briefly spoke with the president. During the conversation, Trump called Favre a “great guy” and a “champion.”
“My question is the NBA and the NFL are struggling with lower ratings as fans clearly do not want political messaging mixed with their sports,” Favre said. “So, how should the leagues support and promote an anti-racism position without becoming political and alienating fans?”
Trump suggested players for both sports franchises should leave politics out of the sports. He said he supports athletes protesting but the “sidelines” wasn’t the place to do it.
