Drew Brees Has Picked Up New ‘Crazy’ Water Hobby Since Retirement

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees announced his retirement from the National Football League (NFL) in March of this year. And, since that time he has found ways to keep busy.

Or, so he told Ellen DeGeneres during an appearance on her popular daytime talk show. The episode became available on Tuesday (April 26, 2021).

And, one thing Drew Brees has found to occupy his time is a new hobby. That new hobby is electric hydrofoil. It is also known as E-Foil or E-Foiling.

“E-Foiling is basically, so people have probably heard of a foil,” Brees described on The Ellen Show. “It’s basically a surfboard that has a mast and a fin structure that kind of drops down below it. It allows you to ride on really bigger swells. So, you don’t necessarily have to catch waves. You can just ride big swells out in the middle of the ocean.”

If that wasn’t enough, the now-retired NFL quarterback said the minds behind the new sport decided it could be taken to another level.

“Well, then they decided wouldn’t it be cool if we added a motor on here and a battery?” Brees described. “So, that’s the E-Foil. And, it is a crazy experience. It is a cross between surfing and flying, which I’m really not good at either, but I can do this, which is pretty cool.”

“It looks fun,” Ellen DeGeneres added. “… looks like it’s a lot of fun – and hard.”

Ellen DeGeneres Praises Drew Brees for His Support of the City of New Orleans

In addition to talking about how Drew Brees has been spending his time since he announced his retirement from the New Orleans Saints, Ellen DeGeneres also praised the quarterback for his dedication to helping make the famous city a better place to live.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that she would be a fan of the quarterback – the popular comedian is a native of Louisiana.

“Thanks for being here,” DeGeneres said to Brees at the start of their interview. “And, you know how much I love you. And, New Orleans will forever be grateful for everything you’ve done. You have done so much for that city and not just for the Saints. … You and Brittany, your wife, have just been amazing. So, thank you for what you’ve done for New Orleans.”

“… I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to play for the New Orleans Saints and be a member of that community,” Brees said. “That was so special. … It is the absolute best.”
