Drew Brees spent Super Bowl Sunday hanging out with one of his sons.

No doubt, it’s not what Drew Brees originally had planned for Feb. 7. But there’s no better way to spend a Sunday afternoon in February than bonding with your son by riding bikes.

Brees posted on Instagram:

“Hitting the trails with Baylen today! Father/Son adventures!”

Drew Brees is the quarterback of the New Orleans Saints. As of right now. It’s unclear whether he’s played his final down in the NFL. But there are numerous signs that Brees is readying for retirement.

More Hints That Drew Brees Is Retiring

On Friday, ESPN reported that Brees has agreed to reduce his salary for 2021. He’s due to receive $25 million if he plays. But he has agreed to the league veterans minimum of $1.075 million. That would clear up $24 million from the Saints salary cap.

In the latest signal that Drew Brees is preparing to retire after 20 seasons, the New Orleans Saints quarterback has agreed to reduce his 2021 salary from $25 million to the veterans minimum of $1.075 million, a source confirmed to ESPN on Friday.

Also, Sean Payton, the New Orleans Saints coach, said he expects Brees to make an announcement this month. Because of salary cap rules, Brees then likely would file paperwork on June 1.

Drew Brees, 42, desired one more season to reach another Super Bowl. He’s played in the NFL for 20 years. He was selected by San Diego with the first pick of the second round in the 2001 draft. He signed with the Saints in 2006 and led New Orleans to a Super Bowl win in February, 2010. That’s when he dueled with Peyton Manning for the 31-17 victory over Indianapolis.

Tampa Bay ended New Orleans season in the NFC divisional playoff rounds last month. He and Tom Brady, the quarterback for the Buccaneers, are close. The two spent a long time talking after the game. Brady even threw passes to Brees’ kids.

Drew Brees told reporters after the game: “I’m gonna give myself an opportunity to think about the season. Think about a lot of things, just like I did last year, and make a decision.”

On the day of the NFC championship game, Drew Brees posted Instagram photos of him cooking breakfast for the family. He and his wife, Brittany, have three sons and a daughter.

If Brees does retire this year, he’s well on his way to the Hall of Fame. He’ll leave the NFL as its career leader for passing yards, with 80,358. He also is second in NFL history for touchdown passes. He’s thrown 571.
