Boxing champion Floyd Mayweather gave words of encouragement to former NBA player Nate Robinson after he was knocked out in his pro boxing debut.
It was one of the most interesting sporting events of 2020. Famous YouTuber Jake Paul faced off against the former NBA dunk contest champion in a celebrity boxing match. Paul had a big-time size advantage on Robinson and some previous experience in the ring. He completely outmatched Robinson and knocked him out cold.
Mayweather, the boxing heavyweight, reacted to Robinson’s fight with Jake Paul. Other celebrities weighed in with their reactions to the fight as well.
“Nate, I’m proud of you and I will always stand behind all my brothers. I will never kick my brother when he’s down. It’s ok for people to voice their opinions on social media, but no black athletes or black entertainers, especially black NBA players should make a mockery out of you,” Mayweather wrote on Instagram. “We are supposed to all stand with each other through the good, bad and ugly. I’m here to uplift you and let you know we all love you and congratulate you for just making an effort.”
The boxing superstar also left a side note with his message to Robinson.
“SIDENOTE: The times I have issues with another brother is when they came at me first. I was just defending myself,” he said.
Meanwhile, according to Robinson, he was doing “OK” after the knockout by Jake Paul. The fight lasted less than two minutes into the second round of his pro boxing debut Saturday.
“Thank you everyone for all of the well wishes, I’m OK,” the 36-year-old wrote on Instagram shortly after Saturday’s fight. “I appreciate @triller for the opportunity as well as everyone that has backed me during the fight. To my coaches, trainers, fans, and teammates, I appreciate all of the time and support you guys put in with me. It wasn’t the outcome that we want, but I’m thankful for the opportunity to fight on the biggest stage that there has been.”
