Long time Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant was moved to tears on Tuesday as he became a member of the Baltimore Ravens.
“My emotions are running high right now…I’m thankful…I can’t stop crying,” he tweets on Tuesday afternoon.
The receiver will be a member of the Ravens practice squad. It is the first time Bryant has been signed by a team since 2018.
He last played for the New Orleans Saints that year but never actually took a snap. He tore his Achilles only a few practices into his New Orleans stint, according to Pro Football Talk.
The last on-field action for Bryant came with the Dallas Cowboys in 2017. That year he had 69 catches for 838 yards and six touchdowns that year playing for a prolific Cowboy offense.
NFL Network personality Ian Rapoport was the first to confirm the news on social media.
“Source: The #Ravens are signing Wide receiver Dez Bryant to the practice squad,” he tweets. “Officially back.”
Bryant Back in the NFL
Bryant worked out for Ravens personnel earlier this week. He was also given a physical, clearing the way for the former first-round pick to join the team’s practice squad. As a member of the practice squad, Bryant is eligible to practice with the team and could even be called up from the squad to join the team on game days. That practice was put in place by the NFL this year due to COVID-19 pandemic concerns.
During his NFL career, Bryant has been a big-play receiver. He has averaged 14 yards per catch through his eight-year career and was a primary target for former Dallas Cowboy quarterback Tony Romo. Bryant has over 500 catches in his career in addition to scoring 73 touchdowns.
The Baltimore Ravens have five wins on the season compared to only one loss through six games.
