Fellow position tight end player George Kittle is recognizing Travis Kelce’s record-breaking ways. Considering how both have been in a race for the No. 1 TE spot in the NFL over the past few years, it only makes sense for real to recognize real.
The 49ers tight end took to Twitter to congratulate Kelce’s accomplishments.
“Raising the bar all year!!! Congrats @tkelce,” the tweet reads.
Travis Kelce had seven receptions and 98-receiving yards during Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. As a result, Kelce set the record for single-season receiving yards by a tight end.
Kelce broke the previous mark of 1,377 yards with 1,416. The record was set by Kittle in 2018.
Furthermore, the Kansas City Chiefs secured their franchise-record 14th regular-season win in Week 16 over the Atlanta Falcons.
Travis Kelce Team Mentality, Not Personal Achievements
Kelce seems to be more concerned about his team’s accomplishments, rather than his own. He’s in the running for the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year award and the best tight end in the league.
“You know it’s cool to be a part of and the real record I’m proud of right now is that it’s the first time the Chiefs have ever been 14-1, and we’re going to try and make it 15-1 next week,” the 31-year-old says to reporters in a post-game interview.
“I really don’t get caught up in the personal accolades. I worked my tail off to just try to be the best teammate and the best player I can be for this organization on and off the field,” Travis Kelce says.
“And you know, getting recognized like that is awesome because my teammates, my coaches, the people in this building are proud of me in that regard, and heck, it can make my family extremely happy, give them something they can talk smack to the person next to them. But at the end of the day, there’s always more to accomplish in a team game.”
The Chiefs also secured the AFC’s No. 1 seed and a first-round playoff bye week after Sunday’s win.
Kelce is Walter Payton Man of the Year Nominee
Travis is making moves on and off the field. Not only did he have a record-breaking game on Sunday, but he also received the Chiefs’ Walter Payton Man of the Year nomination.
“Travis has been a leader in the locker room, on the field and he’s become a great leader in the community,” the video says. He then receives a trophy for the nomination.
Moreover, Kelce will go onto be voted for the final league-wide award.
George Kittle is Back
The tight end hasn’t played since Week 8 due to a broken bone in his foot. However, Kittle is back playing with the San Francisco 49ers after a nearly two-month absence.
As a matter of fact, he posted 92-yards of his own on Saturday against the Arizona Cardinals.
The 49ers have been riddled with injuries this season. The team’s lost defensive ends Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas to ACL injuries. Furthermore, Jimmy Garoppolo has been battling injures as well.
